Amiga OS 4.1 Install Problem
I have been trying to install OS 4.1 and I seem to get to this screen:
I'll admit that beyond 3.9 I really do not know what I am doing. Hi
@bobrpggamer This configuration allows you to install 4.1FE with the following settings: CyberStormPPC Picasso IV 4mb Ram 128 mb Mediator SB128 A2065 you just have to change the paths that point to your roms, floppies in .adf and your .iso image of amigaos4.1FE 53.71 and create your own .hdf (I recommend 8gb) In summary you need to edit this: Floppy choose: BootFloppy.adf CD choose: AmigaosFinalEdition53.71.iso Rom choose: A4000.rom 40.70 Accelerator Board Rom file choose: Cyberstorm 44.71.rom Expansion -> Graphics Boards -> PicassoIV -> choose picassoIV.rom 128k the attached configuration is already configured for everything else You can take a look here if you are pleased to learn more: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=91368 Or find other guides on the net or on EAB for the installation steps and everything else. If you have other questions, please ask maybe in the support app section here are some useful videos that can help you: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZo...-MkSDPw/videos Last edited by White; 09 January 2021 at 18:11. |

with this configuration once the updates have been made with amiupdate and installed the update1 you can immediately use for example Odyssey only with PicassoIV without using uaegfx and increase the ram memory to 512mb so you can see if the amigaos system works according to your expectations

Ideally you should connect your virtual drives to the Cyberstorm scsi and use the A4000 rom (not T) to avoid it trying to use the unsupported 4000T scsi.
Also when setting up your partitions , remember to select bootable. Cought me out more than a few times. Last edited by Mad-Matt; 16 July 2020 at 19:17. |

Hi Mad-Matt,
I tried your suggestion and oddly the speed went up a lot. I chose SCSI (AUTO) and the partitions work without slowdowns and work fast, very fast. Keep in mind that I use a real hard disk initialized directly from amigaos4.1FE using an x76 partition hidden from windows and accessible through winuae. I didn't know about this, thank you very much. Now I don't know if it's a coincidence but it works. But this seems to work after installing the system. I have tried many times to install the system with SCSI (AUTO) but it has always failed. I'd like to have some other suggestions on this. Thank you :-) |

I will try your config and set the paths and reinstall 4.4 or download it if i do not have it.
Edit: Now I get the dreaded CyberStorm PPC (128) is missing but I did rename cyberstormppc_44.71.rom to multiple filenames such as CyberStorm_PPC and CyberStorm_PPC_(128) hoping it would find it in roms but it does not. Can someone let me know the exact name winuae wants so I can copy and paste it to get rid of this message? Re-Edit: Looks like ralphschmidt-cyberstorm-ppc-4471.rom does it, thank you White for your Uae file I got it to boot into install so far. Last edited by bobrpggamer; 16 July 2020 at 23:36. |

Maybe don't rename things and leave file names in the form the emu expects them.
Other than that, simple tell uae what file to use in the 'Expansions' settings. |

I also used the Accelerated controller Mad-Matt suggested now that the PPC rom file has been taken care of.
Why the name "ralphschmidt-cyberstorm-ppc-4471.rom" works I don't know, but it works, thank you guys, maybe I should thank ralphschmidt too. I have been fooling around with Sheepshaver and other Mac emualators for kicks the past couple of days and when I boot a mac II and or a Mac G4, I wonder what would have happened if Steve Jobs ran Commodore. Perhaps we would have PCs and Amigas rather than PCs and Macs. The mac is about as vanilla as I can imagine but with Jobs promoting them they won the fight and the mainstream retail Amiga died in the mid 90s (at least in the US). If the Amiga was mainstream retail these days i would be using one instead of a PC, I always loved my Amiga and always will, even though I sold it to my brother in law in 1990. But to be honest I would not be able to run Amiga OS 4.1 as my main PC in any way compared to my Windows 10, and I am not sure anyone really could unless they are hardcore or something. Not to disrespect the Mac emulator devs and their hard work but the Mac emulators are not much compared to WinUae, its like a station wagon compared to a Ferrari. Edit: OS is installing on the drive. Thank you again guys! Last edited by bobrpggamer; 17 July 2020 at 01:03. |

Well I got the OS installed but I cannot add floppies for some reason, I add the floppy in WinUAE and I hear the floppy sound but no floppy pops up for some reason.
Anyway I got it working and it is very pretty compared to 3.9, so I will stop babbling and thank you again for the help guys. Last edited by bobrpggamer; 17 July 2020 at 06:05. |

Well,
The 4.1 is different from 3.xx with winuae while with 3.xx you have a functional environment that works perfectly with all the available software park as you already know. 4.1 should be used for what it is and find out what you can do with it. No comparisons can be made between the two systems. Such as playing doom or quake does not make sense even if feasible, there is a pc (windows) for that. Change the subject for those who have a real amiga and have decided to pursue their hobby for amiga. On the other hand, a system can be set up that makes you have fun with 4.1 with the applications you can use. And see what 4.1 can do, and instead reversed the discourse between a real amiga that uses the 3.xx and winuae the latter clearly superior. To decide for this is the lack of hardware of a certain level related to the lack of updated software. But if this existed today amiga would be part of the IT market share. Niche systems with some degree of potential remain. On the other hand, the underlying spirit has remained the same for amiga even if emulated, to see today what amiga can do after 30 years. Different speech instead for amiga games at this point we no longer speak of an operating system. But we all know the history of amiga Have fun and make yourself heard to see how 4.1 goes if you have the time Probably with a quantum computer we will be able to emulate 4.1 perfectly in the future with winuae on a spaceship that takes us to Mars to deceive time. Clearly this is an ironic statement Thanks to Toni I am still using amiga, otherwise I should take an amiga 500 for 100 euros and in any case I could not do anything about it. So thanks again!! What type of Floppies are you using? You can also drag and drop Floppy Amigas (ADF) from the Windows Desktop onto the OS 4.1 Workbench.

I am using the basic 880k .adf disks. I never knew Winuae was able to accept floppies like that, I will give that a try, thank you.

It is bizarre to me how I cannot seem to get an image of a CD to show up on the OS 4.1 Workbench desktop, but my physical Blu Ray player shows up when there is a disk in it. It really caught me by surprise when my Partition Magic disk was seen on my workbench desktop. |

you need to eject the cd (in uae settings), then go back into the settings to add the cd image. Then you may just need to simply press Right Amiga E and type diskchange CD0:
I've not had any issue with the floppy, but if using an A1200 setup, then you may need to enable the Floppy fix in the os4 installer or Kicklayout file. |
