A1200 red screen!!

After my A1200 was used in the European Kick Off 2 tornament recently... whenever a disk is inserted... it clicks once and then the screen goes red..
Is that some error code of sorts??

does it also show that colour on screen when you reset your amiga. I remember it has certain reboot colour to indicate certain problems... maybe something for the prb. hardware thread

Red = bad ROM. Might be that the ROM chips need reseating; might mean that one or both has died. If you've moved the A1200 around, it's more likely that the ROMs need reseating.

If you unscrew the case, you can see the chips on the motherboard - they're the only two chips exposed through the metal shielding. To reseat them, gently ease them out of their sockets (probably need to use a thin, flat-headed screwdriver) taking care not to bend the pins, then push them back into place.

You might be able to get away with just pushing the chips back into place without removing them first. Just push down on the top of both chips. Make sure that you earth yourself before touching the chips by touching a radiator. Don't want to fry them with static.

Well, if it was a ROM problem, it wouldn't probably show the boot screen with the floppy but go red instead after switching on. Me and Stainy did push the ROMs in. The problem occurs when you insert a floppy.

Now, I remember that I had a Escom Amiga and whenever I was inserting a floppy, it was going RED. I had to modify the mobo+floppy. It seems to me that the floppy misses some kind of singal. I bet that if you plug in a HD, it will boot fine.

Stainy, try a different FDD first. This is the way to start.

PS Jacob punching the table! Arghhhhhhh!

I used to get Red Screen every time I loaded Paradroid90 on my B2000. Booted the machine with NOMADboot (or something like that) and it worked... I think the HD controller stole some memory that was needed or something like that.... U could always look for NomadBoot and try that too?
