I have some form of expansion for A1000, but until I can power it up, I don't know what it is.

Just plug an A500 expansion into the side expansion: it'll be a lot cheaper, and give you proper fastmem...

i may go that route my sweet I think a supraram with 2mb would be nice and has small foot print too which helps

The supraram is cheap and is occasionally on ebay for sensible money (like 20 quid or so). Unfortunately I don't have a spare, snookums.
