Top down shooter with strafe on Amiga?

I really like the strafe gameplay in top down shooter but i can't find one wich has this gameplay mecanic on Amiga.
Neo Geo Shock Troopers is the reference but this mecanic was already used in The Ninja on Master System in 1986.
I don't know why this hasn't be used in title like Mercs, Commando or WatchTower.
ABTA has an retreat mode wich could be considered has a "strafe back" mode an that's why his gameplay is really great. Sadly left and right strafe was not implemented.
In fact the best strafe mode could be a button keep pressed to strafe left right and back. And the retreat mode from ABTA on another button to shoot in all direction while back off.

Watchtower or Mercs coud have been very enjoyable with this feature but they are joystick breakers without this strafe mecanic

Do you know any Amiga Shooter with strafe excepting ABTA and AB2SE ?

IIRC Smash TV had a "twin stick" control method that had one joystick controlling movement, the other controlling shoot direction. I believe Total Carnage is strafe when button is held down, but otherwise it'll face the direction you're moving in.

Smash TV really needs 2 joysticks for strafe, it's a "twin joystick shooter"
Perhaps the only game that has this feature .I have to try with joysticks,it's not possible with Cd32 joypads but it seems funny.
For Total Carnage, yes, you're right, strafe when button is held down.
I should try your SE version to see if the game feels better with your modifications

Thanks for your suggestions!

Hope you enjoy! Total Carnage isn't great, but the SE makes it a little more playable.

IIRC, Chaos Engine CD32 and Skeleton Krew CD32 had some ability to rotate with the CD32 buttons and shoot, but I don't think they support 'strafe' per se.

Skeleton Krew have strafe as standard when You shooting and with two buttons mode and CD32 version when You hold both fire buttons at once (holding just one You'll turn fire to left/right). Also in Desert Strike when You hold fire you can strafe.

In SWIV you can shoot different directions and move to other directions while holding the button down when you're playing as the jeep in the two player mode.

Llamatron supports both dual stick and "hold the fire button to lock firing direction" modes.

Ok so there it at last 2 games using "dual joysting" Llamatron & SmashTV
SWIV is OK but needs 2 players. No way to choose the jeep with one player only. The 2 player mode is excellent BTW.
For Chaos engine i didn't know that it was different form the A500 version. I always play A500 version.
I never tested Skeleton Krew. I should try it

Thanks

Of course you can. Press the help key at the title screen and then you can choose which joystick/keyboard controls what. Then you just have to press the joystick fire button to start with the jeep if you reassign the control to the joystick.

Also, in Ikari Warriors you can stick to a direction by pressing the space bar (and need to press it again to go back to the 8 way shooting mode).

OK for SWIV, i didn't know that we can do this

Ikari Warriors seems to be the one that can benefit from a key remapping with WHDload

I have to request it in the "More CD32 Pad WHDLoad PAtches" thread

Thanks again

Finally some top down shooter with strafe to play with on Amiga
