F/A-18 Interceptor - Main Title Theme - Remake
Hi all!
I decided to give the the F/A-18 Interceptor song some love, here's my 2022 remake. Made using Cakewalk Sonar, FM8 Softsynth (Used to play the distinctive Yamaha DX7 tubular bell patch that's used for the TopGun Theme), ShortCircuit2 soft sampler for the drums, Korg 01/W for the vocal chords, Roland JV2080 for the Cello (Think the same patch was used in the early Tomb Raider games), and an AccessVirusKC for the bass and everything else. Enjoy! ![]() [ Show youtube player ] |

Very cool, and nicely edited video! Is the cello part part from topgun? It's been a long time since I watched it...
No fault of yours but one thing bothers me: [spoiler]Some of the "ingame" parts were recorded on an accelerated Amiga where "HDG" sometimes flashes green in the external view. Will hopefully be fixed in the next WHDload version (longer story here). It's haunting me because I looked for to cause for far too long ![]() |

![]() Nope there was no Cello in the TopGun theme. The tune that starts around the 1:50s mark (and repeats, that the Cello adds to later on) I made up. I tried to imagine what the original composer (David Warhol) might have added if he had more than 4 sound channels. I tried not to go over the top, I kept the original bassline and drums going, just wanted to gradually add more stuff. My remake pretty much follows the original until about 1:00, aften that I start introducing new stuff. Yes indeed some of the video footage was from an accelerated amiga. I do mess about with the speed of all the clips in the video, to make it seem things are happening in time with the music. BTW, the girl on the Cello is Virginia Madsen, from the Electric Dreams Film (Not sure if you knew that). Thought it might be fun to make it seem like she was playing along. Not sure if it really works, seemed a good idea at the time lol! |

It was a pleasure to watch it ... very much liked it too !! With the cello girl you gave it even some more emotional kick I think... very cool stuff... in the video interceptor was rendered by a PAL machine ...

Also worth listening to is the Giorgio Moroder/Christian Petzold combo from Electric Dreams called The Duel:

excellent. It seems some careful thought went into how you structured this. The additions do a lot for the piece.
It might be a controversial opinion to some but I find those that spend all their time remixing classics or simply reworking them as played on a piano as both a good and bad thing. On the one hand it's a homage out of respect to the original work but then it is I also imagine that many doing this can't manage to write their own work to the same standard so far as actual composing goes. Not in itself a bad thing of course but gaining attention from others work I'm rather more at odds with because it feels wrong to me personally, but a really thoroughly well executed piece can at least be considered as a greatly respectful homage |

![]() I know where you're coming from regarding remixes. It's tricky one. Personally, when I remake/remix something (and I admit I've done a few), it has to be because I really love the original, but over the years I've felt I've needed something else from it that hasn't been available to listen to anywhere. Maybe it just needs finishing or restructuring or the instruments need updating etc... So then I try to recreate it with that something extra. It is a really enjoyable process (unless it isn't, and then I just bin the idea) and if it turns out ok I upload it as it might hit the spot for someone else ![]() |

sounds like you came at it from a good place. It's probably also because some can be quite half hearted to begin with. I'd happily listen to this one in the background and actually wanted it to go on some more at the very end part. It's well constructed and takes the material a little further so certainly not a waste of time. Might play it next time I play F18

This is great! Thanks. I love the way you've developed and extended it, from extra percussion sounds to new arpeggios and that cello!
