Regarding the choice of active/passive heatsink, will there be any difference in how the card runs or is it just personal preference?

For a gold top CPU's, no it's preference for a ceramic processor a HS/Fan is strongly recommended for obvious reasons... Thanks! |

Thanks for the reply. So, the MC68030 that comes with the card is a gold top one?

I have the ACA630 25Mhz and that thing makes A600 fly, and makes it responsive.
This one is 50MHz! Pretty good deal. |

Got an A630 and it’s disappointing. Dunno if it’s just my card but it appears to overheat in about 2 minutes when the 600’s case is closed. Freezes and then refuses to boot. Opening the case up again and giving it a few seconds to cool down (without even switching it off) allows it to boot again.
Weird because it’s got a fan. My A1200/060 doesn’t have a fan. Bad overclock maybe? It’s installed in a recapped A600 from RetroPassion, so I’m pretty sure it’s the accelerator at fault, not the Amiga. Tried two different PSUs; no difference. Mostly it’s disappointing because when it actually works, it makes using the 600 fun. |

Got to give credit where credit is due. That is one sweet looking Accelerator! Price is also very reasonable.
What a beautiful upgrade for the notoriously difficult to expand A600. |

Nothing back from the retailer. It seems that some of these boards ship with real 50MHz chips while others ship with overclocked 33MHz chips. On the assumption that mine is overclocked I’ve ordered a replacement MC68030RC50C gold top that in theory won’t need additional cooling.
Will report back when it turns up some time in the next month. (As an aside, every accelerator I’ve used that had an overclocked 68k CPU was garbage. I don’t know why people keep trying to overclock 68k chips.) |

Surely you know that almost any 68030 you can buy these days it at big risk to have been reprinted, and there is no way to read the internals of a 68030 like with the 68060.
68030@50 can just be a 68030 that does 50, markings are meaningless. Your best choice would be a black plastic MC68030 because they will likely do 50 even if they were 33 or 40 in their first life. Golden 68030 are barely overclockable. |
