Price advice for a GVP HD8+

Hi all,

What is the typical price for a GVP HD8+ these days? It's got 4mb fast ram and a 42mb hard drive installed (upgradable to 8mb fast ram and a larger SCSI hard drive can be installed). It also includes the PSU.

This was included with a load of other bits i bought and is not needed as i already have one for my good old A500

as you know, prices are subjective, normally I would not suggest a price as it can upset others including those I am trying to help.

What I will say is whatever valuations you do hear / read try and get as many sources of information as possible.


Now heres rough idea of its worth

last year I bought the A2000 equivilant for £35 (including 8mb ram)
recently a good friend bought the IDE +8MB Ram for the A500 for £45 (including 8mb)

I would be comftable paying £50 (inc uk postage) for this for my A500 (if i needed one)


Hardware Notes -

the GVP HD8+ is a wonderfull card, it off loads the Disk process from the CPU and provides upto 3.5MB a sec transfer (on average 2.6MB with 68k@14mhz )

With the GVP HD8+ you also get access to a SCSI bus, for things like CDROM / SCANNER and if your hard-core-geeky with the linux, even a SCSI network =)

The HD8+ has some issues however,

1. its only 24bit DMA addressing and can only write in the 8mb reserved space
(thisl reduces the maximum read speed when using an 020/030)
2. without the GuruROM update from Ralph Babel its limmited to 2GB of physical disk (i need to tripple check this)

Thanks for the info Zetro I think even the limit of 2gb is probably more than enough space for an A500 (if the limit exists on mine?). I may have some more 30-pin simms somewhere so i will probably upgrade it to 8mb fast ram

I'd say near 100€ if it had the full 8MB - still worth a bit since it does have a good chunk of (memtest'ed?) RAM, say 50-65€. Harddisk interface RAM can be a mother to find, that's why.

About $50 AUD, what I got for mine. That was 8Mb and no HDD

FYI if you are doing auctions in the future, not a good idea to have them finish in the middle of the night (i.e. 2:11am) as it dissuades bidders who do manual snipe bidding and leads to an overall lower price.

I personally hunt for UK auctions which end at times like these in order to get a much lower price.

To be honest i never bother checking the auction ending times when i list things... they still usually sell for a bit more than i expect anyway
