My 3000 floppy function is restored!

For quite some time, I’ve had to access files with serial between my amigas, due to a floppy issue. Swapped drives around, no help. After reading on here, I finally tried more than just pushing on chips hoping something wasn’t seated right. I gave up trying to find a replacement Gary… (rare to find…) I read that the cia chips also handle floppy function, so I swapped the pair around, and voila! I have floppy function again!
Likely the original chip that controlled the floppy is now failing to control something else, so I need to replace it, but I think it’s just the serial ports, and now that my floppy is working I won’t need serial anytime soon…

But

Anybody have a source for cia chips?
Are they the same as the 2000 uses? I have four 2000 boards, so might have chips to swap from there.

There are two varieties of 8520: a DIP package and a PLCC package. If it fits, it's compatible. Recently I've seen adapters to use the PLCC chips in a DIP socket - apparently the PLCC chips are more common.

Same package, and same chip numbers.
So it should work.
I fired up the 2000 and need to check floppy operation etc, then figure out which chip controls the floppy in the 3000, and swap in the chip.
I'm stoked to have the 3000 back up 100% functional.
The 2000 is a chore, lots of varta squish, needs so much work.
My spare board looked a lot better, and it works fine, so that's where I'm focusing my energy for now.
