Microcosm CD32 curiosity

Seems odd this, while running in quickstart mode if you select best compatibility the game doesn't work, yet if you pick the two lesser option (which enable JIT) it works fine.

Tried with the latest official release and beta.

Gets an "internal hardware error".

Actually, I have narrowed it down to the "more compatible" option in the CPU section. It is enabled by default when using the quickstart option.

Without it the game works fine, with it it doesn't.

It is usual timing specific game. Non-A500 QS settings are most compatible for most games, but there are (too) many "broken" games.

(and there is no point in having specific configurations because timings will change between versions)

Is there a need for more compatible mode when emulating the CD32?

When you hover over it it says 68000 prefetch blah-de-blah.

Maybe it would be better to disable it from from selection, unless it also has some benefit when emulating 68020 it seems kind of redundant to me and will likely break more games.

So you want it to be disabled because one game fails with it without testing others. Right..

btw, did you miss all older threads about 68020/AGA compatibility problems? I am not going to repeat them anymore..

I have actually been going through the entire TOSEC collection over the weekend as it happens and quite a few games do not work that worked previously.

I will be testing them all again to see if the more compatible option is indeed the one that is stopping them all from working.

I have not seen other topics on the other problems though as I don't read everything on here.

I have tested a few games that I remembered that didn't work and disabling "more compatible" also fixes Dragonstone.

I really should've made a list of what worked and what didn't. Guess I will have to test them all again

I've reported that error 2 and a half year ago. It's indeed because of JIT. Best compatibility disables JIT, which will make the game fail...

It's not the same anymore WK, it does work with JIT now (or at least past the part I highlighted)

Something actually part of the "more compatible" code is stopping it from working.

If as the tooltip suggests the more compatible option is introducing 68000 specific code then maybe that is why it is breaking a couple of CD32 games.

You are right, however I tested it without JIT as well and it still worked so there
