Need more information. There are several external drives that all look the same. You have images of the board inside? I can see if I have one that matches and try to read the gal.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem, in the end have you been able to solve something? I have ordered a new Gal16v8 but I think it has to be programmed, the problem is where to follow the dump

I have managed to read what seems to be the original chip but it is impossible for me to copy it to the new GAL, would you be able?

I have that same floppy drive and I have extracted the JED with the TL866II. Unfortunately, I don't know if he was protected or not. All ones come out except the final part of the file. The box, the floppy drive was damaged and I changed it, it is fully functional, except for the data cable between the motherboard and the floppy drive that has some problem.

In that unit comes a GAL. Another that I have a PAL. Curiously, the PAL one works much better than the GAL one, which is quite problematic. I can't send the chip, but if you know how to make it drop the code with a TL866II, I'll make it talk... :-)

These are the final lines of the JED that it extracts. The others are all one.

*L02112 00000000000011001111111111100000

*L02144 01100000011000001000000110000001

*L02176 100000011111111100

Now that I look at the image better, it is not exactly the same PCB. On mine there is an array of resistors soldered to the left of the GAL. On the board with the PAL there is no array, just three resistors soldered at different points. The PAL is soldered directly to the board.

I put a link to the full JED.

https://mega.nz/file/H41SjYBL#6FBgur...5A20XGDFrbZIRE

It seems that by putting certain voltages on the EDIT pin of the GAl, it already sings like a soprano.

Love to hear that song. Unfortunately the JED in your link is 'blank', which is what you get with a protected chip. You will never be able to unprotect it.

However the functions that the GAL must perform are known, so it should be possible to reproduce the code. The first step towards this is to get the circuit so we know which pins do what. cpiac64 says he has 'verified' the schematic of his drives. Perhaps he could post it here...

I already imagined that this JED was wrong, although when giving values other than zero at the end there was still some hope.

On making the GALs sing opera. According to the author of galduino...

https://gitlab.com/MHeinrichs/galdurino

Most read protected 16V8 and 20V8 can be read with this thing due to a bug in the read protection!

"How to find the right poti value to read a (protected) GAL?

Every GAL has two trigger voltages on the EDIT-pin. One to switch into READ-mode and one to switch into WRITE-mode. Usually one can read the GAL putting 12V on the Edit pin. Putting 15-22V (depending on the GAL-Type) on the EDIT-pin triggers the writing mode.
The read-protection can be fooled, if the read-voltage value is applied before power up (5V on VCC). Sometimes it needs to be close to the READ -trigger voltage (usually down to 9 V ~ 130 Potival) or around the WRITE-trigger voltage (PotiVal 220-230). Sometimes the read-protection is already fooled just by putting 12V (180 Potival) on EDIT before power up .
So try different values around 130, 180 and 220. A good read usually has a lot of zeros in each fuse line. Lines completely filled with "1" indicate an unsuccessfull read. Lines or blocks of lines complete filled with "0" are suspicious but could be possible. If you find a "sweet spot" but some lines are "1" try to read again. Sometimes a GAL need some "attempts" to be cracked."

I have not been able to test it since I will not have a variable power supply for a few weeks.
Since I have a TL866II, but I can't control that voltage, I had thought of isolating that pin and injecting the voltage externally. I don't know if it will work.
