Help with Graphics Ripper
Hi, folks!
I'm new to this forum: I joined recently. There's a problem I have with "Graphics Ripper" (version 1.04, the latest). I downloaded the program from its main site but when I try to start it nothing happens. It seems to start as the window appears in the taskbar but then it terminates without even a message. I have already tried the program on two Windows XP machines and even on a Windows 98 one! I hope somebody will help me! |

That is strange. So far it worked for everyone. You sure you have the official package from http://retrospec.sgn.net/ utilities section and you properly unpacked it (the .dll file is in the same directory as the .exe) ????

Yes, I downloaded it from that site and I extracted all the files, exactly these:
GfxRip.exe, GfxRip.cpp, readme.txt, alleg41.dll and tdgui.h I'm very expert so you can tell me about everything! I'm trying to compile it myself as I already have installed MinGW (C/C++ is my favourite hobby ), compiled successfully Allegro (the latest beta) and BGui (also the latest version). It's the first time a program doesn't work for me! I hope we will solve the "problem"... Last edited by falconfx; 07 June 2005 at 12:58. |

Finally I found the solution to my problem. I recompiled the program myself and it didn't work. Then I deleted the non-needed functions from the program (all except main ) and it said in the MS-DOS Prompt that it had problems setting the screen resolution. So I disabled hardware acceleration, changed the bit-depth and the resolution and... it worked!!!
I don't know why it doesn't work with the 800x600 resolution but it doesn't matter. Now... forward to rip the world!!! |

Great ! I think the problem is that the ripper runs in windowed mode and it opens up quite a big windows - might be too much for 800x600 res ?
Glad you fixed it. Best regards Tomaz |

There's a "print screen" button on the keyboard! Use it! - then paste to any graphics program... bang!

Sorry to bump into this old thread but I have exactly the same problem as this guy. The program starts, a window shows up for a split second and then the program exits. My res is 1024x768 and bit depth 16. I have tested several other screenmodes but nothing seems to solve the problem. Any ideas?

Thanks Tomcat! I think I play around a with the code myself to see if I can fix it. I'm not so familiar with allegro though. I let you know if I make any progress.

In fact i check under win95 and win98 2nd edition under 800x600 and it try to open a window and then quit.
I just try to 1024x768 and it works. A luck to see a version running under lower resolution ? |

I am not sure if the code is suitable for any other resolution but a window of 800x600 (don't have the code here to see if it is hardcoded and I don't remember now). Mail me on monday and I will see if I can quickly knock up some command line switches to run it in smaller (or even bigger) window.
