Captive 2:Liberation help!

I recently got my mitts on a physical copy of this again after 20 odd years and decided to give it a proper go, and I've gotten to mission 5 somehow.

The manual gives plenty of info but pretty much *nothing* on how items work and the like.

When I examine a Repair Kit, it says
"
Repairs damage to droid's armour.
Requires Mechanics skill.
"
so I put a mechanics skill chip into my droid's head, and use the kit - but it just drains the repair kit and doesn't actually repair anything.

Does anyone have an idea of how it works and how I can fix my poor droid's broken legs?

I realised what was wrong.
The repair kits do exactly as they say: repair *armour* only. "Damage" is a separate value and has to be repaired in one of the engineer places.

Liberation is brutal if your droids get seriously damaged.
I’ve never made it as far as mission 5 - how does the difficulty progress as the game goes on? Do the bad guys get tougher? Clues get harder to find?

The enemies do get more difficult and more numerous, but also you find better equipment and chips, more money starts appearing in houses, and the missions require different things (instead of just bribing everyone you actually need to find items as well to give, for example, my current progress requires me to get a "dirty TriDee" to give to a npc for a clue, which i can find or buy from a shop, for example.

The big one is that the missions seem to vary in length quite wildly. Some have been one or two steps and done, and others are a wild goose chase throughout the entire city to find items and clues you need to complete it
