What NEW retro gear have you bought this year?
I'm shocked that you can still occasionally find brand new retro computing stuff out there. Some of it has been stored for more than 20 years! Then there is the reproduction stuff and a few wonderful new upgrades for the old computers.
I want to know what NEW (unused... or presumed unused) retro computing/gaming gear you've bought this year - either original, NOS, reproduction, add-on or upgrade. By "retro" I usually mean 80's or earlier, but anything before 1995 is OK. (Note: Playstation and X-Box is not retro) Here's what I bought this year (the word NEW repeatedly added unnecessarily for emphasis ): NEW TI-99/4A computer NEW Atari 800XL computer NEW SDrive NUXX (SD card reader for Atari 800XL) NEW Atari CX-80 trackball NEW Atari cartridges of Blue Max, Ballblazer, Rescue on Fractalus NEW reproduction Atari cartridges of Montezuma's Revenge and Berzerk NEW reproduction Competition Pro joysticks (2) NEW monitor cable for Atari 800XL I also bought a motherlode of new Amiga games, but that was a few years ago so I don't include them. What NEW retro gear did you get this year? |

I think you should replace NEW with NOS (New Old Stock) because they are not really new are they?? They are all 25 years old +
Out of interest, how much of this stuff did you take out of the box and use for more than 30 mins before putting it back in the box and in the cupboard? |

No need to roll your eyes at me - I didn't put anything back in the box. It's all out, set up to use whenever I want. I'm not a hoarder. |

The only 'NOS' things I come across seem to be for Dreamcast, which is definitely 'retro' I've never even seen a new amiga game before :/
I do a lot of shopping for 'retro' (megadrive, dreamcast) sort of games, but I refuse to ever buy 'NEW' as in sealed games. I buy my games to play, and it feels a shame to unwrap factory sealed games when there's perfectly good used copies for the same price. I suppose the closest I could come is I managed to obtain a NOS control panel overlay from 1989 for my Sega Megatech arcade machine. |

I tend to look at it the other way. I would refuse to ever buy a used game that somebody drooled on or picked their nose then touched with their grubby festering hands - when there's perfectly good clean new games for the same price (...or slightly higher... and I'd be willing to pay extra for that luxury.)

One of those new "replica" Competition Pro Joysticks arrived yesterday. Nicely packaged. Although yet to plug into the A500 (WinUAE on laptop is sooo convenient), I was surprised how much effort it takes to operate and the the loud clicks. Could be another case of 30 minutes use and then consigned to the cupboard.
Realised later, of course, that searching ebay uk site lists loads of much cheaper used joystick options which don't appear on searching ebay au default because international delivery not selected. Now wondering what other games, apart from Turrican and Swiv, I'll enjoy using it with. |
