Pacman - the Amiga conversion from the arcade game - Page 10

It uses the Amiberry WHDLoad AutoBooter and shows it in the background (it doesn't do this when it just works with other games you just see the WHDLoad dialogue box with the option for second button to jump etc before it loads).

It recognises the fact slave files.

But says "setpatch not found"

Then says "Creating Boot Script" but then goes black and does nothing and stays black.

This is common to all three games.

not a slave problem probably. setpatch is the command usedcto patch the os at start

Congrats on 2nd place in the Amiga Game Competition too mate!

They all work fine on the A500 mini... BUT you need to do a few things to get them to work.

You need to get the latest whdboot folder from the Amiberry github page. You also need to install the whdload kickstarts into the Devs/kickstarts folder in the boot-data.zip file.

Do that and all JOTD's games work fine including Supercars AGA.

I've got version 1.0.0 of WHDBoot created in 4/4/22 and I've got the A500 (33180, 33192 and 34005), A600 (40063), A1200 (40068) and A4000 (40068) kickstarts in the Devs/Kickstary folder. Not really sure what I'm missing!

No, for some reason it only contains the .RTB files not the other two types! I'll add the others. I thought the Cloanto Roms were licensed for this product already! Thanks for pointing out the missing files on my memory stick though.

Also, I only have copies of the A1200 and A500 Roms. I hope that's enough for Tiny Bobble etc?!

Nope. With the Roms installed the only thing that is different is that the jotd games now fail on a AmigaDos screen rather than a black one!! Disappointing!

If you join the A500 mini Facebook group. I've put a fully configured THEA500 folder on there. Works with all JOTDs games.

Would it be possible to replicate the other early Pac-Man games on A500? (By that I mean any of the titles before Pac Mania)

Not much. The whdload slave provided didn't start on A500.

you mean? Pac Man Jr, Super Pacman, etc... I never really played them and there's little documentation about them (they're also a lot less popular). Mrs Pacman was a quick job after all. The A.I. of the ghosts was just slightly tuned. Not sure about the other games.

Super Pac Man is similar to the original, but it runs on a slightly beefier arcade board from what I remember. Pac N Pal might be the hardest, actually, since it even has background music...

Loved Jr Pac Man on the Atari 2600. Never played Super Pacman before though.

Super Pac Man got an excellent conversion on the Atari 7800, you should try it
