Cannon Fodder Crash

While replying Cannon Fodder I (again) have strange crash after finishing mission 19. Before main screen loads, I get black screen, game crashes.

At first I thought it might be save state issue, and since I was not playing WHDLoad, but IPF disk image version and did also use in game save after each mission, I reloaded the game from last save and finished mission again just to get the same error.

I am using WinUAE version 4.9.1 - 64 bit and I am now not sure what version of IPF I used, have images extracted in a folder.

Wonder if anyone else had the same problem. From my notes from previous replay, this is exactly how far I got last time - stuck on mission 19. (Twilight zone in background at this point )

How many recruits do you have for this 19 mission ?

"There is a BUG in the game !!! Exceed 250 recruits and the recruitment
screen graphics will corrupt, causing a crash. Choosing "unlimited
soldiers" will not allow you to exceed 250 recruits. IF you play the
game un-trained, there is no way you could reach this number anyway !!!

Both parts of the game have the same error."

I was already over 250 recruits for past 2 missions. (did not loose single soldier yet)

Even with this bug, the game program has a bug anyway which is appearing either on round 19 or round 20.

I have finished countless time Cannon Fodder 1 & 2, and the bug with black screen even triggers if you have way way less than 250 recruits.

What would be a way around it?

So far I finished mission twice, and still got black screen bug. Should I try different floppies with my save? Do you remember what version of game did you use?

You need to save each mission on the save disk. When it crash, reload the save, and it will be ok the next time.

Are there any versions confirmed to be 100%?

I'm used to playing the FLT version, but probably with a save disk so I've never encountered the bug.

Is the version linked by stevsurv confirmed to work?

I did make native Cannon Fodder saves, playing IPF version of the game. I loaded CF save and second time finished the same mission and still got the same error. Will try again.

I am using IPF this time, but played this with WHDLoad many years ago, and got stuck on the same level. So probably - yes. (unless it was fixed in later releases of WHDLoad, as I played it about 15-16 years ago)

15 years are so much time... http://www.whdload.de/games/CannonFodder.html maybe fixed it (or in case this bug should be reported!)
