Chasing the fastest configuration.
Hi
I want to build a minimal installation for Lightwave rendering Which should be the speediest configuration for Full HD rendering. It should run on a low end PC ..but i might consider a beefier alternative. So in terms of Configuration low level e.g Kickstart,CPU emulation,RTG etc up to the OS selection what is the best Last edited by masteripper; 19 April 2021 at 17:50. |

I am running a 3.1.4 A1200 030 with32mb of ram and a A4000 3.1 with 256mb of ram. The latter has the Picasso96 drivers where as the former does not as that often will be on my real A1200. I have WinUAE set to go as fast as possible on both emulations, so the CPU does not make a difference.
I think some hardware experts might be able to give you the extreme details. |

If your software doesn't require anything better than 020 without FPU and MMU then it will be the fastest. Enable JIT, disable emulation of anything unnecessary, use UAE RTG, New UAE 128k Direct ROM. Kickstart 3.1 or 3.1.4.

There's a lightwave version for windows. Wouldn't it be faster to use it instead?

Then I guess 020 + 68881 set to Host (64-bit) will be fastest.

Yes but where is the fun... .. "a kind of "...fill the right word...." for all the endless hours waiting for a single frame back in the 90s

I have been having so much fun with Cinema 4D on the Amiga. I forgot how hard it was to light back then

It's neat to fire up old 3D rendering software and do things you wouldn't have dreamed about back in the day, like rendering in 8k to get antialiased 4k images.

I'm not really clear if there's any functional difference between emulated CPU/FPU types when using JIT mode, but as most of the software I used back in the day targeted 020/030 I went with 030+882. Like your Vista Pro renders. That is one piece of software that is showing it’s age, but with some massaging, will create nice renders. |

020 emulation is faster than 030 & 040, especially with data cache emulation etc. So if something doesn't need 030/040 instructionset, it will run faster on emulated 020.

VistaPro?!? Infidel!!! I was one of the few who followed the true fractal faith, Panorama!
Ok, I did also play around a bit with Vista too, I remember rendering an 8 meg looping animation flying through Yosemite that took like a day (or at least overnight) to render on an A1200. Last edited by Rotareneg; 20 April 2021 at 18:05. |

You have me intrigued. I have never heard of that. Googling as we speak...Ok, I can't find anything of note. Please fill me in on this program. I would love to have a play with it.

It's very obscure. You can find the 4 disks for version 3 and the 4.01 update disk on the file server under TOSEC/Applications. My manual for version 3 is falling apart so I really should type it up and upload it somewhere for posterity.
