I wonder if they mislabeled level 6, because the invisible enemies only appear on level 20. I'm pretty sure they are just re-coloured versions of the Sun Slime enemy. Speaking of enemies, does the guide list the names of the mutants? In the game files the mutants are only numbered, they don't have names, so I named them for my guide. The game is clearly confused about what exactly you are fighting. In the manual they refer to the creatures as mutants created by Professor Bloodheart . But the text on the level stats and level creator screens calls them aliens. This sci fi idea is also implied by the German box art which depicts an astronaut fighting two giant alien snakes. I personally find the idea of fighting a tower full of rejected mutants more compelling, so I call them mutants in my guide. Thanks again for your hard work TCD and Torti! Narrow walkways over inescapable lava pits is definitely not a feature we should have kept around in FPS games

Could Doom levels be recreated in Fears as it seems to have different levels? Just thinking if you could edit the monsters...

I only ever played the demo. There was something odd about the perspective, especially when turning, as if the camera wasn't properly centred on the player, because you can see some parallax changes. The other thing was the depth cueing. It was just too extreme. That probably allows for some good jump scare opportunities in the full game though.

Wow! This is amazing! More FEARS lore!
I ran the page through Google translate, so maybe it's a translation error, but are the Rattler enemies supposed to be female? Quote:
The only jump scares in the game come from when you open a door and an enemy is directly behind it. They nearly always shoot and hit you instantly, because your hitbox is so large. This happens all the time. So you spend most of the game backing away from doors after you open them. You can snipe some enemies, but most enemies start shooting as soon as they are rendered on screen, regardless of distance. |

I am very curious how the line of sight system actually works in the game. Playing on and off using the excellent maps posted, it seems very..particular.. about when you can shoot past corners and when you can't.
I also managed to get stuck at one point from a secret area you can't exit the way you came. You are supposed to drop down to the area below but two enemies were standing there and refusing to move ![]() |

Great!
Also, I never knew about the guide book and it is not included in my copy of the game. Interesting to see. I have a soft spot for Fears even though it is lacking in some areas. It would be really nice if the disk version, whdload installed, supported the same Control scheme as the CD32 version (using L and R to strafe left and right and so on)... by the way. It makes such a huge difference playing. |

My sealed copy came with the Guide Book (the one i have scanned for you guys)
![]() About the Control Scheme tho. If anything, the CD32 version should be able to use the Mouse&Keyboard control Scheme. Sadly, it dosen´t. (also not the WHDLoad version ![]() Same with the Floppy version. That one should also be able to use the CD32 Controller Scheme. It dosen´t. I made a Mantis Entry for that. Nothing happend so far. http://mantis.whdload.de/view.php?id=5915 The WHDLoad slave Package for Fears is very odd, because the slave for the Floppy and CD32 version are years appart AND the Floppy slave doesn´t support CACHE ![]() I also made a Mantis entry for that. http://mantis.whdload.de/view.php?id=5916 Still, nothing ![]() Maybe one day. Hey, it´s been only 20 years since the last public Floppy slave ![]() |

Since I bought the game second hand it might just be that it was incomplete, or maybe different versions were released (I have seen at least two different box arts, I have the one with the extreme close up of a face).
I did also add a request for CD32 pad support with a good control scheme just now. If something happens something happens, but it would be fun to play through the game with an updated slave. |

I have this version (Published by Attic)
This Cover is way Cooler imho but still stupid, because there are no such enemys in the hole Game ![]() The Game was censored tho; so i did play the English "Backup" version. ![]() (and NO, i only "copied" games to try them out !!! I wish i would still have all my original Amiga Games ![]() Fears is sadly one of the few that had survived) Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 08 December 2022 at 01:02. Reason: Spotted a typo |
