Who here made their own Amiga games and/or utilities?
I always programmed on the 8-Bit machines I had back in the day, and tinkered a bit on the ST with STOS, but the Amiga was when my 16-bit software creation really took off, with AMOS and the accompanying Compiler (which is necessary, if you ask me).
So I made three games which were puzzle-based with time limits, and the third was an action-based game which was on a grid. I also made two utilities with my own "Click Interface" (as I called it), and I got £20 for one of them via Shareware! I have put my complete offline website in The Zone, so that it may best explain what the software was (you'll find the Amiga stuff in the bottom). I submitted the games to 17-Bit Software, but only two of them made it into the mainstream, and one of them is even on TOSEC's own library, that is being the game Brainbow. Unfortunately, I lost two of the five programs in the move from Amiga to PC, and the loss is lamentable to me, but I've recovered three of them since from software collections like Assassins, and I have them now, ready to share. If you want to have a look at them, just PM me. They're all Shareware, I believe, so there shouldn't be any copyright problems. In the meantime, here's a recording I made of the lost game on VHS (later converted to digital video): [ Show youtube player ] It was my best game, shame it no longer exists except for this video. |

a lot of people here created their own tools / games. Maybe people are shy to boast about their creations out of the blue?

I never created much beyond the "hello world" and "guess a number" type programs in amigabasic from wb1.3, back in the day.
I made a game for my son last year, the phenomenal Father Christmas vs Dinosaurs , which I'm certain everyone here played... ![]() |

I wrote a lot of tools back then. For example, some archiver (which I later learned works similar to tar) because I wanted to save diskspace, among other things.
Always wanted to do a game, but I'm not good at graphics or sound, so I never even tried it. Now, that I'm older, I figured, I can still give it a try, since artists are hard to come by, so I try to learn it, and will see what comes of it. ![]() But I guess a lot of people here, did similar things, or probably even better, because there was no Internet, and you had to have connections to get games. And of course (for me) it was a lot of fun, exploring the machine. |

I remember walking into my local John Menzies (defunct newsagent chain) back in 1993 and looking through the latest Amiga Power, and I saw my own game, Brainbow, given a review! By the most unforgiving game critics around!
And another one of my games, Revolver, appeared on an Amiga User International coverdisk as well! My 15 minutes of Amiga fame right there and then! Last edited by Foebane; 26 January 2020 at 17:44. |

Is the thread about games and utilities which were released to the public only? Then my earliest publications might have been the PhxAss assembler and PhxLnk linker on the Fish Disk series (around 1992). Lots of tools and utilities came after that.
I always spent more time on programming on my computers than anything else. Therefore I never was interested in consoles, and also didn't need a PC later for games. The Amiga was so much more fun. Mostly I was trying to write games or tools which helped me to create games (like an assembler). Started already on the VIC-20, so I was programming my A1000 from day one in 1987. An embarassing collection of all the game projects I did together with my brother between 1987 and 1993 can be found in the Night Owl Design Games Museum: http://night.owl.de/index.php?id=50 None of them were ever published. We did them for ourselves. |

No. You can only drive around that demo track. We were young and unexperienced, and debugging possibilities were limited at that time. So finally a collision detection problem with the track borders stopped me and we moved on...

I used to code some stuff in AMOS, I created for example a calendar with names, joystick tester and some keyboard / joystick driven graphics and animations, also my own intro for Bubble Bobble etc. I tried to start few games, but never finished them.

phx: could I have Little Princess? My daughter is 5 this year, she is already skilled in Sonic and Bubble Bobble on Megadrive and might be interested in your games.
EDIT: Oh, never mind, there is a download. Last edited by Predseda; 26 January 2020 at 19:16. |

He was 16 in 1990. He certainly improved his skills over the years, until our latest game releases.

I have a massive hoard of unfinished and poorly written games and tools that I've worked on over the years, only to stop work for whatever reason (distracted by a new, shinier project, distracted by girls & booze, or in the case of a tool or utility, got it to a point where it worked well enough for me but not well enough for a release). Every so often I browse through them, and once or twice I've resurrected one to bring them to a releasable state, but most of the time I look at the code, realise that it needs a rewrite, and abandon it again... Many of the tools I remember using, but can't remember exactly how (without unravelling the awful code), and would probably never use again. I also have recovered much of my Atari 8-bit code from cassette - that code is even worse
![]() I do release some stuff though that reaches a state close to finished. You can see some here. Last edited by Daedalus; 31 January 2020 at 14:21. |

I was the author of a reasonably popular PBX cracker. Come on we just wanted the free phone calls. It was never uploaded to a BBS as far as I know but was widely shared in private within that scene.

I do have some self programmed Games and Utilities, but, back then, i was a beginner and taught myself programming (amiga basic, amos)
I used to convert some of the c64 games (mostly type-ins) to amiga basic and amos. And while i had the c64, i extracted many Sprites and charsets from the games, with the help of action replay cartridge, and later, on the amiga, i wrote a sprite/char converter. I still have all the Sourcecodes here. But as i said, they were beginner games, like Towers of Hanoi, 3 in a row, and senso (of which i still remember) |
