Advice On Overclocking Apollo 1260

Hey,

So I have an apollo 1260 50mhz with 32mb ram and I was looking at the overclocking issue to get the best out of the card for games like Quake, ScummVM etc. I have an 80mhz oscilator and the fan that I was using before my card was upgraded from 1240. I also have a heavy duty PSU so power shouldn't be an issue. I am, however, a novice at this sorta thing, the 50mhz crystal is soldered on and I don't have the tools/expertise to desolder. Should I be leaving well enough alone, attempt the job myself or send the card off? I've heard talk that someone can add an extra 32mb to the board leaving it that it can still fit in the trapdoor?

Thanks

With the standard 060 processor you will probably be able to get to 66mhz but to get to 80mhz you need a Rev6 060 CPU, they quite pricey so consider the extra costs if you decide (unless of course you already have the Rev6 060)

The person who you mention is Stachu100, (he is on these boards) he can do the upgrade for you but you will have to check his workload/availability.

I think there might also be a further mod needed to achieve 80mhz however it's a long time since I did the research as I sold my Apollo 1260 opted for Blizzard with PPC instead

Thanks fitzsteve I'll look into it. It's the latest mask, can't remember the number off the top of my head. I'd been having problems with the card freezing, crashing, not booting etc but it's been working 100% these last few days (longest was a couple hours before) with a new install of classic WB3.9 and the latest apollo libs, I have no idea why but i'm thinking just leave well enough and enjoy the card! Probably only a coincidence but It's since I installed my new Indivision AGA MK2cr that it's been working fine.........!
