Has anyone actually completed Project-X without cheating?
been testing out FS-UAE with the above special edition '93 Project-X which i understand is supposed to be a little easier.
This is the first time i've actually used save states to cheat my way through an amiga game (mainly down to the ease of being able to save without pausing the game in FS-UAE). hell aside from writing down lemmings and benefactor level codes to resume from where i've left off, this is about as far as i've ever gone cheating wise. I'd say i'm on about my 100th load state/life. i've just completed the level where you need to reverse into the boss'es backside to kill it (took me best part of 30 mins to work that out). even if i'd have used the level selector, i've no idea how ANYONE could legitimately complete this game. it is crazy hard! i've got max EVERYTHING and reserve the stealth for sections that are ney on impossible to pass without. i've not completed it yet, but i'm at 353855 score and i'm wondering how much more there is! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've completed it in the past. Certainly wasn't easy and took quite a number of goes but to be honest I played it so much I could get through the first three levels without losing a life and in my sleep (possibly). The original is as hard as nails though, and not in a fun way.

![]() ![]() it's taking me a while to figure out the "sweet spots" where you can just sit there firing and not budge an inch and still take out the waves. what baffles me on the first stage though is i feel i'm better off running circles around the blue cratered sphere that spits out little bullets than killing it and getting another! when i was a kid i loved the game but jesus it takes learning by your mistakes to extreme levels ![]() |

Yes, original 4 disk & 3 disk SE edition, countless times.
![]() Once you memorize the levels it's easy peasy business. My best score so far in 4 disk version is 679,376. |

I cheated
An old thread that I started, discussing the fact that apparently Team 17 did not think you could win the game without losing a life since the ending message was "Now try without losing a life", even if you had cheated and not lost a life:
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=2930 There was a second post but it was removed so don't think I suffer from schizophrenia and answer to myself. |

I don't even get through the second level to be honest. I'm not good at games where there are too many things flying around, I simply don't see half of the bullets! Project X and Ilyad, two games that are my worst nightmare because it doesn't matter how hard I pay attention, I don't get better at them.
Strangely enough horizontal shooters are no problem. EDIT: eh perhaps that should be vertical shooters - Raptor / Banshee style. Last edited by gimbal; 05 April 2013 at 18:51. |

I think this game should have additional theme on HOL - educational, memory.

Wouldn't that be true from most other shoot'em-ups (Saint-Dragon for example comes to mind)?
What about Educational Language English? It is very useful if you want to teach your child how to pronounce: "Select now for plasma" or "Approaching asteroid belt". Two sentences that most people would never pronounce during their lives... ![]() |

What about the samples from Turrican 2 then.
I always thought it sounded more like "labour" than "laser" when you pick up the weapon power-ups. ![]() |

Yes, I can hear 'łajza' instead of 'laser' which mean 'hobo' in polish.

Cheating is not sinning. Sinning is cheating though.

Ive only ever played the original, and only made it to level 3.
To each their own and whatnot, but I never thought it was all that great a game so the only motivation to keep playing was to see the next bunch of graphics. Eventually even that wasn't enough motivation for me. Guess I'll have to try cheating one day to check out what Ive not yet seen. |
