A1200 - problems installing HD
I have an A1200 with Kickstart 39.106.
I'm trying to install an IDE hard drive. I have two that I can use, but am having problems with both (although I know that they are both in good condition). I can not seem to partition them to full capacity, so was just wondering if a newer version of Kickstart might overcome that issue, BUT my main issue is this:- I have created 2 partitions - the first is about 250-ish MB in size and I have called Work. I can format this partition no problem. My second partition is called Data and is just under 4GB in size (it's basically the biggest partition that I seem to be able to make). When I attempt to format this partition, I get an error:- format failureThis happens on my 40GB Fujitsu drive and my 100GB Toshiba drive. Am I missing something? I'm using HDTools on WB 3.1. |

My guess is your biggest partition isn't in fact 4gb (readings are incorrect) it's more likely the rest of the drive and as such you need patches to use drives this size. The 3.0/3.1 Rom have a 4gb limit on the scsi.device(ide driver)
There are several ways round this, have a read of this guide as a good starting point: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=61048 All the best, Steve. |
