Where is the installer?
Where does the installer reside in AmigaOS 3.2? Trying to install P96 and when I double click on the install icon I get a message: unable to open your tool "sys:utilities/installer".
I assume I need to find it and move it where this program is looking for it. Other programs have installed just fine. Last edited by Sundance2022; 29 March 2022 at 21:48. |

Check SYS:C/. Then point the P96 installer there.

Installer is on Install3.2.adf.
Even on older OS'es, it had to be copied by hand |

The intention with older versions of the OS was for the Installer tool to be included with the software to be installed, not with the OS. That way, you always had a compatible version of the installer with any given script and so it didn't need it to be installed with the OS. Starting with 3.5 however, the Installer tool was installed with the OS in SYS:Utilities. This is part of the path so the full path doesn't need to be specified in the icon. More recent versions of the OS (e.g. 3.2) install it in SYS:System.
No version of the OS ever installed it in C:, but many people put it there in the past, and worse, some people created scripts which specified the path C:Installer, which was totally unnecessary but causes problems for anyone with the installer in an official location. Specifying an absolute path to the Installer tool shouldn't be done - if an icon is set to C:Installer, SYS:C/Installer, SYS:Utilities/Installer or whatever, that shouldn't be the case. It should simply be set to Installer, that way the system will either use the copy of Installer that's included, or an installed version in the path. |

The Installer is located at SYS:System/Installer

Installer being in the wrong location is a known bug and will hopefully be fixed for the next OS release.
I would not recommend installing the V43 Installer; that one is very obsolete and can fail on newer scripts. |

I always tell myself that one of these days I should "fix" this issue on my A4000D by creating two soft links with Makelink... but keep forgetting to do so, as I end up manually selecting the correct executable every time
