some .lha archives fail

Ive got an a1200 with 3.2.1 installed. Ive downloaded the latest whdload from the server.
Ive unpacked the lha.run and placed the 020 version of .lha 2.15 into the C: folder. Some of the archives fail to unpack, why?

Try LHA 2.2 instead with support for lh6 archives:

https://aminet.net/package/util/arc/LHA22

But don't upload lh6+ archives to Aminet!

It's up to you how you configure DOpus4, but here is my example for Lha22 (I'm still using Lha v2.15 as the default command in C:)

When the normal LHA doesn't work then I have an extra button in DOpus 4.17pre21, executed with options "CD target", "With all files", "No quotes":

AmigaDos echo "LHA22 -a -k x *"{fu}*" " >T:LhaShell
AmigaDos NewShell CON:0/22/800/500/{o}/AUTO/WAIT/CLOSE from T:LhaShell

I don't know if your .lha archive extraction fails because the files got broken during the download. That could also be one reason for a failure.

You can see the lha version with any hex viewer or hex editor in the signature at the beginning of the file, something like -lh5- or -lh6- at the 3. byte.

You could try to extract manually with LHA v2.2 from a shell:
LHA -a -k x archive.lha drive:destination/path/ ; or just into drive:

MAX TRANSFER issues? If you're using Gayle IDE and have your partition incorrectly configured you can get LHA failures as a symptom

Max transfer is set to 0x1fe00 pfs3aio as the disk structure.
I doubt its this, its seems more likely to do with the pcmcia cf card than the internal hdd.
I tried redownloading the archives from ftp.grandis.nu i get a windows error code. If i try ftp2 i get 2 error codes but the downloads start and then fail a short while later.

I get: open 0x00CC004
conn 0x00CC008
when I start downloading the archives using the whdload download tool, So i have switched to my main PC that is hard wired to the net via cat 6 cable and im still getting the same codes

Ive just redownloaded some of the demos that wont extract and they wont extract.

This may be a stupid question, but does 3.2.1 support long filenames out of the box?

On my vanilla 3.1 setup, filenames that are longer than the default 31 characters do not extract because the LHA program doesn't see the .lha suffix. Manually editing the filename so that it ends in .lha within the char limit is the solution.

Pcmcia cf card is where all the archives are located. I expand them from there. Could that be it? If so why do somework?

Are you extracting them to the PCMCIA drive or your internal drive?

MAX_TRANSFER issues only affect drives connected to the Gayle IDE port on the motherboard.

Issues with MAX_TRANSFER only affect files over a certain size which is why some LHA archives extract without error.

I'm not saying this is your issue but best to double check

Im extracting from pcmcia (fat95) to internal hdd (pfs3aio).
The hdd is a 'slave', connected to a long ide cable with a buffered ide card.
The rear cf port is the 'master' with WB3.1.4 installed on the cf card.

Try to unarchive them in AmigaOS but to the PCMCIA fat95 drive rather than the internal pfs3 drive?

Try copying the lha files to the internal pfs3 drive before unarchiving?

There are numerous programs for Windows (7Zip) can open and even validate LHA files.

Put the CF card back in the PC and try and open/validate the failing LHA files in Windows?

Ive copied the files over to the internal hdd and tried to extract them. I did 4 folders, each full of archives & non of them extracted. Dopus goes through each of them individually amd skips past onto the next.

Also, my 4gb cf card is full so I switched to the original 2gb cf i bought from a local amigan. It used to work; but now it doesn't and I dont understand why. Its formatted to fat/fat32/fatw95 but none of the formats allow it to show. It appears on windows but not in WB 3.1.4.1.

Help

Even if it has nothing to do with your problems, I will never understand why people still use fat95 altough they are using 3.1.4 or 3.2 ...
