Cody's Musically Magnificent Amiga Top 50 (Entries 10->01)
Woo hoo! The Top Ten Amiga game music of All Time. Well, apart from the good ones I've heard since I started and didn't include
Anyway, the Tenth Greatest Amiga Song Of All Time is: Position: 10 Game: Jim Power Musician: Chris Hülsbeck Publisher/Developer: Loriciel/Digital Concept UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...Jim_Power.html mdat.title (Sub Song 1) is pure excellence and professionalism. A great tune, great instruments and superbly crafted. The same goes for mdat.ingame_1, the music of the first level. Hülsbeck should be a millionaire from his music, but then the world doesn't reward talent - it rewards being at the right place at the right time, knowing the right people, being in the right industry etc. NOTE: Sub Song 1 is the very first song in a mod and Sub Song 2 is the next one etc. |

For me Jim Power is the best game of the genre together with Turrican 2, and they have both beautiful music from the same Composer.
I am quite near to finish it... after a lot of time. Turrican 2 is easier. |

This music is not in UnExoticA, so check the Zone!
Position: 9 Game: Ultima 6 Musician: ? Publisher/Developer: Mindscape/Origin UnExotica Link: None Anyone who has lived in the world of the Ultima games will that the music is an integral part of the whole. Ultima 6 is a conversion from the PC and as such, the Amiga music are conversions from midi to mods. The Amiga mods are better than the PC midi... ULTIMA_Aa.MOD sets the scene with an atmospheric title tune. If it were possible to describe this music in words, I'd say that it was pulling me into the Ultima game world. A more upbeat tune is this version of the well-known patriotic Rule Britannia theme ULTIMA_Ba.MOD. The world of Ultima is called Britannia, the capital is Britain and the King is Lord British, so this fits in well! Sometimes, you can hear it too much in Ultima games, but it's great to start the games and walk up to Lord British with this music playing. Like a sort of welcome back to Britannia. ULTIMA_Ca.MOD is a beautiful tune, played in the game when you create your character by talking to the gypsy. The text, combined with this music make a powerful effect, and further propel you into the world of the game. Back to moody music, with this gothic song - ULTIMA_Da.MOD. Great tune and central instrument! More peaceful again, with ULTIMA_Ea.MOD. And a more active tune - ULTIMA_Fa.MOD. A good battle song. Finally, we have the regular Stones song, featured in most Ultimas - ULTIMA_Ga.MOD. This was written by the real person who inspired Iolo The Bard in the game. The song's about Stonehenge - here are the lyrics: Long ago ran the sun on a folk who had a dream And the heart and the will and the power: They moved the earth; they carved the stone; moulded hill and channeled stream That we might stand on the wide plains of Wiltshire Now men asked who they were, how they built and wonder why That they wrought standing stones of such size What was done 'neath our shade? What was pray'ed 'neath our skies As we stood on the wyrd plains of Wiltshire Oh what secrets we could tell if you'd listen and be still Rid the stink and the noise from our skirts But you haven't got the clue and perhaps you never will Mute we stand on the cold plains of Wiltshire Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away And we say of our folk, "they are here!" That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire |

Ultima VI? Okay Cody, I'll bite & start this debate!
You relegated something sonically impressive like the Cannon Fodder intro tune in the mid-eighties, or whatever it was, & yet you put a PC midi tunelets conversion in your top 10 of "all-time" amiga tunes?
Geez, are you gonna put that honky-tonk accordian music from Wings in your no.1 spot then? Your just lucky Akira isn't here at the moment, I'm sure he'd have something say about this!! Okay, I'm not saying atmosphere isn't important. I just watched "Jaws" again just the other night for the 1st time in years, & that graphically demonstrates turning an average film into a classic thanks to a brilliant score. However, surely tunes/music that were written to use the amiga to the full have to take precedence! Last edited by 7-Zark-7; 30 November 2002 at 11:29. |

He's not lucky, I am visiting briefly
Please remove that PC Speaker tune from the top ten . I am not much of a sucker of the Xenon 2 tune, but it deserves a ranking much higher than this tremendous piece of turd. |

Hmmm, I'm surprised that there were no comments about Ultima 6, except for Drake's one...
Position: 8 Game: Gem'X Musician: Chris Hülsbeck Publisher/Developer: Demonware/Kaiko UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotica/games/Gem_X.html Another Hülsbeck! mdat.title is a superb tune, with great bells and other oriental sounding instruments. In the game, there are also lots of Japanese girls saying that they love you and other stuff. It's surprising that this was a German game and not Japanese! mdat.ingame contains a couple of good ones and an absolute gem (no pun intended!). The first two sub songs are good, but sub song 3 is the best one by far. [Sub Song 1 = the very first song of the mod, Sub Song 2 = the next one etc.] |

Position: 7
Game: Onslaught Musician: Kim Christensen Publisher/Developer: Hewson/Realms UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...Onslaught.html Sub song 1 in cust.Onslaught is a very atmospheric tune, which begins with medieval sort-of chanting and continues on to a cool central theme and some nice echoing instruments. But, the absolute stand-out is sub-song 3 of cust.Onslaught. An amazing melody! It appears during the high score, after a game and after the battle. This tune speaks volumes - a masterpiece. |

Gem'X was indeed a good game and really liked the music too. Good choice Cody.
Disclaimer : I am in no way able to actually chose one thing over the other in everyday events so just because I like this tune doesn't mean I couldn't find 8 I like more. Well maybe |
