Problems with CAPSDI "Life & Death"

Some of the text in the game is completely garbled: e.g. "X-Ray" and "Refer" as seen in the screenshot. The "closing door" sound that plays when entering/leaving a room is also distorted.

This problem is reproducible with the latest beta as well, but notice that regular .adf versions work just fine so basically all I want to know if these .ipf images are indeed damaged.

CRC32 for LifeAndDeath_Disk1.ipf = F469BAAE
CRC32 for LifeAndDeath_Disk2.ipf = 97C956A7

No, unless the original game had an issue as it was sold...
It is much more likely that you use a configuration where the game does not operate normally, like wrong amount/type of memory, KS or WB version...

That being the case, I can only add that the .adf versions work just ok under exactly the same config.

Which does not prove anything at all. And works fine here, randomly selected 512k KS 1.2 QS config.

whdload version talks about missing blitter waits causing broken fonts = it must be bad config

I'm using WinUAE's default config without any modification whatsoever for this test, but here's where it gets interesting. I tried the Kickstart 1.2 that I use for A1000 emulation (CRC32:9ED783D0) and that fixed the garbled text even though sound is still distorted. I'll have to try an A500 Kickstart 1.2 and see if that does it!

If you wait for the KS prompt to appear before inserting the disk the game works, if you reset the machine with the disk inserted you get the corrupt graphics...

Interesting find! I can confirm text is no longer garbled with Kickstart 1.3 when you do it this way, but I'll continue to test till I get the sound right.

Well, if any of you succeeded in getting sound to play correctly, please share your config, kickstart's CRC32 and whatever tricks you may have relied on, I'm lost here

At least SkidRow crack is different compared to SPS version, for example Manual.code is different (different text inside)

EDIT: all tosec adfs have same text as SR crack.

Dates are also different. SPS files are dated 25-Apr-1991 but adfs (all versions) are dated 29-May-1991. Crack being 1 month older does not really compute

Yep, doesn't make any sense, but certain applications can mess the file attributes in mysterious ways without that actually implying anything wrong. Interesting finds though
