Removing denise from a500

What's the best way to remove the denise chip from a500 rev5? Is it soldered in? Or can I just yank it out? I'm trying to upgrade to super denise.

Yep, should be socketed. Preferably get something like this to pull it out evenly. The custom chips are 48 pins though but I'd imagine that still reaches over it.

Hello

I'm trying to remove Denise in an Amiga 500 at the moment but she's not moving. I got a PLCC-extractor and a DIL-extractor. Not really sure how to use these extractor tools anyway. Should I just pull the chip straight up, or alternately pull one side at a time? How hard do I pull?
I am afraid I'm going to break something, I've had her since 1991.

It will be on there pretty tight by now, you can use a flat edge screwdriver and insert it between the chip and the socket, twist the screwdriver slightly from side to side and you will probably hear the chip "creak" do a little bt at a time, push the chip back down after raising it a little and that will free it up a bit. The idea is to remove it squarely and it is tough due to the location of the chip itself.

It will come out with a small flat screwdriver, as it loosens you can insert the screwdriver to pry it a little further

Thank you for the input kipper2k.
I got it out just now using the PLCC-extractor. All pins looks straight, I am quite relieved. Now I'm going to install it into the Indivision ECS.
