Sword of Sodan, I knew I could complete it :-D
I finally completed Sword of Sodan on the Amiga during a commentary video without cheats, I just wanted to share it with you if anyone interested in seeing it
Now I know many feel that this has dated not too well in 30yrs and I would agree BUT imo it was a big deal back in the day, it was one of those "Shadow of The Beast, open mouth in awe" moments where it showed how much better Amiga games could be over It's ST counterpart. Regardless of what everyone thinks of it I'm just proud I managed to longplay it without cheats Sword of Sodan longplay with full commentary: [ Show youtube player ] |

It's one of the many games I wish I had actually played back then. I tried getting into it a few years back, but I just couldn't. Pretty sure I'd have been more positive had I played it on release.

Nice. Enjoyed it also BitD. Don't think it has badly aged. Still think the gfx are really good.

A similar game like Splatterhouse aged much better. But that was expected. Nice graphics in SoS, but horrible animations and pretty dull game mechanics.

That's right. Already BitD SoS main critic was its gameplay. It was also, if I remember correctly, the first game with such huge sprites. A nice performance.

well played! This game is not so easy to finish, a big challenge.
And it’s true, for a game of 1988, what an incredible game in another genre The Plague also reminds me of Sword of Sodan Too bad the colors are so bright and lack of relief |

This game looked awesome for its time! The gameplay was really hard until you got used to how to play after dying a heap of times.
I first tried the cracked version but the last disk was corrupt so had to buy the original and eventually did finish it. One of the most enjoyable and challenging games I played at that time! |

There was a tendency of euro developers to complicate controls for the sake of "depth", and with one button joysticks made everything so much worse. Take a game like Lionheart. If it had just a simple attack and a bit of a longer range (like Castlevania or Strider) it would be an absolute classic. But developers thought that it would be too simple for an Amiga game. Never played SoS, but splatterhouse works because of the simple, visceral gameplay. |

This game stood out from the rest due to the huge player and enemy characters. They filled up half the screen pretty much.

Yes, I agree, was a WOW factor first time I saw the static screenshots (the size of the sprites!) less so when it moved!

I played it when it came out at a friends house when I myself still had a C128. I distinctly remember 2 things. I was very impressed by the huge characters on screen (and some pretty good pixel art) and second: Diskette -juggling. Yes my friend didn't have an extra drive and my memory of is that you had to swap disks every 2 minutes.. ;-)

Technically brilliant and extraordinary details in the graphics, but for me it's a dud because the main gameplay loop is just too slow and repetitive for my taste.
However, I do greatly respect the game. This is one of those shining examples that defines the golden era of gaming; experimental games that dared to do something out of the ordinary and people were open to playing them and accept them for what they are; warts and all. |

Thanks very much, I'm pretty chuffed with it As for The Plague, yes I've played it many times, the end boss is one of the (if not THEE) most impressive bosses on the Amiga I've ever seen,...and I just LOVE the title music, way up ther in my top 3 best Amiga tunes. |

Thank you for posting this, I remember being blown away by the game back in the day, the graphics really were a `wow` moment. I never finished it sadly but might have to give a try again after watching this
