Question Decent native C compiler with IDE for Amiga 500

What native compiler and IDE is best for programming in C. I've know of Aztec C but can't find it on Ebay. Where could I get this or a better option?

do you really need to use your A500 to develop? Can't you use a cross compiler or at least a native amiga compiler running on a boosted WinUAE config to develop?

A long time ago I was using SAS-C & CED (not really an IDE...). There's Hisoft C++ (not sure about the name) which has a cool IDE (at least with colors) and does C++ (oooold, unusable) and C (properly)

Cross compiling is the way in 2020, though...

SAS/C on vamos with Linux, and emacs. That's the way how it works here. But I'm a fan of command-line tools.

What kickstart and how much RAM does your A500 have?
Does it have a HD or does it have two floppy drives?

Manx/Aztec C can be found online, there is a website to all the versions.
http://aztecmuseum.ca/compilers.htm

The early lattice C versions are command line, and the freeware NorthC on aminet is K&R C. The FreeDICE on aminet is ANSI C but does not support, double, float and bitwise operations but you can get the full version on aminet as well.

CubicIDE
AmigaOS 3.5, 68020 and 800 x 600 resolution are some of minimum requirements.

Yes I think asking for an IDE on an Amiga 500 is unrealistic, you won't have enough FASTRAM to compile anyway.

I used to use Storm C back in the day on my A1200 with 030 and 64 MB RAM but even then it would really grind on larger programs.

I also brought CubicIDE but never did much with it, can't even remember why.

Cross compiling on a modern PC is so much easier these days.

Back in '97, I used SAS/C (6.58?) with GoldED (can't remember its version, 3 maybe?). GoldED provided a syntax-highlighting and an ARexx port. I was able to build from it and I used some simple ARexx script to jump back to the line of code with a compilation error. Also, SAS/C had a debugger. Overall it was quite close to "IDE" and it easily run on 030/50+8MB (KS3.0, 640x256 screen). That version of SAS/C was even able to compile C++ (to some extent), if I remember correctly.

P.S.: Still far far away from A500+KS1.3+noHDD :-(
