Been there, done that....
That's no different from removing and replacing TSOP chips, I've done plenty of those before. Good flux such as Chipquik, a good quality soldering iron, a steady hand and eyesight like the proverbial rat are all you need. I'd like to see him tackle a BGA chip with that method Merlin |

Part of the trick, which you do not see in that video (But you do see in his others), is to use good quality Flux.
And not just 60/40 with a flux core. In one of his other videos, you see him using a tube applicator before soldering. This prevents the solder from bridging over every pin, and if they do bridge, just apply a bit more flux, and run a clean solder bit and the bridge should jump off of the pins and onto the Bit. [edit] He is also using Liquid flux, I like paste flux because when doing QFP like for Minimig, it sticks the component into place, so when you orient the component, it stays there. |
