Been there, done that....

That's no different from removing and replacing TSOP chips, I've done plenty of those before.

Good flux such as Chipquik, a good quality soldering iron, a steady hand and eyesight like the proverbial rat are all you need.

I'd like to see him tackle a BGA chip with that method

Part of the trick, which you do not see in that video (But you do see in his others), is to use good quality Flux.

And not just 60/40 with a flux core. In one of his other videos, you see him using a tube applicator before soldering.

This prevents the solder from bridging over every pin, and if they do bridge, just apply a bit more flux, and run a clean solder bit and the bridge should jump off of the pins and onto the Bit.

[edit] He is also using Liquid flux, I like paste flux because when doing QFP like for Minimig, it sticks the component into place, so when you orient the component, it stays there.
