WHDLoad for Andromeda Mission (AmigaDOS)
Hello,
who is willing to do a slave for Andromeda Mission? :-) The game is in AmigaDOS format, which should make it quite easy. http://hol.abime.net/2494 I was able to make an IPF file. |

started it, running. There's manual protection to remove, though.

There is a stupid question “who made the game” at the beginning.
But if you know it was Daemonware, it is easy. Saw no other protection till yet, but the guy who cracked it 30 years ago said there was a copy protection that you cannot duplicate the disk. “I only have a vague memory of the crack (was 33 years ago), I mean the copy protection checked with trackdisk.device if the track was readable, I just formatted the track and made a BEQ.s out of a BNE.s. Easy Frag.” |

Just trying it out... I was asked "How many levels does Mission Andromeda have?" so there seem to be several different questions.
Haha, all the question are directly visible in the executable. - How many photos are on the backside of the packaging? - How many levels does Mission Andromeda have? - Which color is the packaging? - Which color has the Mission Andromeda text? - What is the first word below the upper left screenshot? - How many enemies are in the upper left screenshot? - What is included with Mission Andromeda? - How is the producer of Mission Andromeda? So I guess there's no disk protection after all. Here's the protection code: Last edited by mnemo; 23 December 2021 at 23:26. |

yeah, found that too, by finding the random routine and the text display routine
and I confirm that there isn't any disk copy protection. Or this is a sneaky one, not at start... I doubt it. plus IPF can be read in DOS mode without issues. Zoned a beta whdload installer |

Works, copy protection can be skipped, but the game runs too fast on an 680x0 (as stated in the readme). Good start, though! Thanks!

probably needs speed regulation. Damn that's annoying.
Also needs an icon. |

Installer using the IPF works fine.
But it has on 030 and 060 the same speed problems. 2 second normal, 1 second massive speedup, 2 second normal and so on. |

I think I can fix that. Game is using wait bottom of frame and probably wrongly assumes that 40 ms has passed when sometimes it's only 20 ms because of cpu speed.
Seen that a lot in old games that expect to run at 25 fps but sometimes run at 50 fps unexpectedly. |

The version on HOL does not have the status panel at the bottom of the screen. Was it a preview on HOL?

The graphics in the panel version is 222 pixels high, and the non-panel version uses 170 pixels, so it's likely an NTSC release. Actual gameplay area is same size in both versions.

This version was PAL, language is a mixup of German & English.
But I know there was also a NTSC version. |

Tested it now on 030. Tooltypes in the icon were missing.
First level is ok, but starting with the second level it seems too fast. Or I am getting old? Also third level… came there only using the trainer. So no slowdowns anymore, but a bit too fast in the higher levels? |

On 060 you are lost in the second level.
Also interesting: enabling unlimited energy leads to a not firing boss in the first level. Not always, but in my tests he was only firing sometimes and the other times just moving. |
