Snoopy and Peanuts - Buggy or emulation issue? My notes...

Having played through many versions, I have found them *ALL* to be buggy. Is this an emulation issue or game issue? I'm leaning towards game. Others have experienced the same thing, such as http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php/...ad.php?t=34512

I've uploaded a save state into the zone if anyone wants to test. Walk right into the house and keep walking. It will crash.

There's multiple versions of the game:

- Copylock version- Has no sound at all (Snoopy and Peanuts - The Cool Computer Game (1989)(Edge, The)). Crashes before you can complete it. You can't open the locker to get the blanket in completion method 1. This also happens in the IPF I have tried. I haven't tried method 2 to complete.
- Other versions do have sound (eg. [cr FPL - Cristina] and [cr MWB - Ikari]). Allows you to complete method 1, but crashes when you try to complete with method 2. Once you take the bust to Schroeder in Lucy's house, it crashes. This also happens in the IPF I have tried.
- The CDTV version - has additional speech and walking animations for many characters, and many characters start at different screens. This one crashes much earlier than the ADF's/IPF's. Once you pick up the scissors in the school and walk left, the game crashes when you approach Schroeder.
- The WHDLoad version - Is completable using both methods. However, the package at Charlie Brown's house is corrupt and the statue/head/bust that's inside after you cut it open is invisible. Also when Schroeder begins playing piano, the music sounds corrupt. Maybe the install I used has corrupt data files?

I've created a complete walkthrough for both methods to complete the game. Can be posted onto HOL if desired, although it's significantly longer than what's currently there (which only lists method 1).

Quote:
NOTE: On the CDTV version, anytime "(space bar)" is mentioned to walk down a footpath, simultaneously press fire and UP instead.

Walk to your dog house/kennel.
Take your typewriter and type a letter.
Take the typed letter and walk right into the main house.
Give the letter to Charlie Brown.
Take the cookie jar and eat the cookies.
With the empty cookie jar in hand, keep walking right out of the house and follow the footpath right to the lake.
Once at the lake stand near the edge and hold your fire button. Wait for the frog to jump into the jar.
With the frog in the jar, keep walking left to the first house that you see (Lucy's house) and walk down its footpath (space bar).
Walk into the house and continue to the backyard. When you get to the stairs, put the frog and jar down and pick up the umbrella.
Walk left until you're back onto the footpath and continue walking to the storm cloud.
Press fire to open your umbrella and walk through the rain. Once on the other side, put down the umbrella and kick the ball across the rain. Once again, pick up the umbrella, open it and walk through the rain to where the soccer ball is. Drop the umbrella, pick up the ball and walk right.
Keep walking right until you reach the school. Walk down its footpath (space bar).
Move a little closer to the wall and kick the ball at the school's bricks. A brick will fall. Take the brick and walk back to the footpath.
Follow the footpath left until you reach the tree with the apple. Stand below the apple and press fire to throw the brick up. The brick and apple will fall. Take the apple.
Walk right until you reach the school. Walk down its footpath (space bar).
Walk into the school until you reach the teacher's desk. Set the apple down and a whistle is dropped onto the floor.
Pick up the whistle and walk left until you reach the sleeping Peppermint Patty. Blow the whistle to wake her up.
Drop the whistle, pick up the scissors and walk left until you walk out of the school and are back on the footpath.
Walk left until you reach Charlie Brown's house. Walk down its footpath (space bar).
Use the scissors to cut open the package. Drop the scissors.
Go back to the footpath and walk left until you reach the slingshot. Pick it up and keep walking right until you reach the school. Drop the slingshot and walk down the school footpath (space bar).
At the school, pick up the soccer ball and walk left to go back to the footpath.
At the footpath, alternate between kicking the ball right and walking right with the slingshot until you get to the lake. Alternating in this way saves time since you don't have to walk all the way back to get these items.
Once at the lake, kick the ball into it.
Pick up the coin and jump onto the barrels and soccer ball until you reach the well. Getting onto each platform is a matter of timing and some luck.
Once at the well, throw the coin inside. Balloons will begin floating out.
Fall into the water to instantly get back to the slingshot. Pick up the slingshot and again, jump onto the barrels and soccer ball until you reach the well.
When you see the balloon with the pump tied to it, shoot it with your slingshot.
When the balloon pops and the pump falls, put down the slingshot and take the pump. Again, fall into the water to instantly cross the lake.
With the pump in hand, walk left until you reach the first house that you see (Lucy's) and walk down its footpath (space bar).
Keep walking right until you get to Lucy waiting at her deflated pool.
Walk to the pool, hold down your fire button and waggle the joystick left and right until it's fully inflated.
Drop the pump, go left, pick up the hose, go right and press your fire button until the pool is full of water.
Put the hose down and walk left until you reach the jar with the frog. Pick up the jar and walk right to the pool again.
Press fire to let the frog out of the jar. Lucy will get scared, jump out of the pool and drop her floaty.
Drop the jar, pick up the floaty and go left until you reach the footpath. At the path, go right until you reach the tree with the kite. Drop the floaty at the base of the tree.
Go left until you reach Lucy's house again and walk down the footpath (space bar).
Go right through the house until you reach the pool. Pick up the pump. Go left again until you reach the footpath. From there, again go right until you reach the tree with the kite and floaty.
Inflate the floaty (hold down your fire button and waggle the joystick left and right). When fully inflated, drop the pump and jump on the floaty to dislodge the kite.
Pick up the kite and walk all the way left to the rain cloud. Charlie Brown will be there. Give him the kite.
Walk right until he trips over.

Completion Method One
---------------------
Pick up the key that Charlie Brown drops.
Walk right until you reach the school. Walk down the footpath (space bar).
Walk right into the school and jump so your key hits the locker with the blanket in it and it opens.
Drop the key, take the blanket, walk left out of the school and keep walking until you reach Linus. He's generally somewhere on the footpath at this point. Give him the blanket.
Game completed.

Completion Method Two
---------------------
Walk right until you reach Charlie Brown's house. Walk down the footpath (space bar).
Pick up the statue/head/bust and walk right until you reach the last house (Lucy's). Walk down the footpath (space bar).
Walk right into the house and set the statue/head/bust near Schroeder and his piano. He will begin playing the piano.
Walk right and the washing machine will be spinning. Once it has stopped, the blanket will fall out.
Take the blanket, walk left out of the house and keep walking until you reach Linus. He's generally somewhere on the footpath at this point. Give him the blanket.
Game completed.

I had tested both IPF's and they didn't work when booted from disk.

But the new WHDLoad version in the zone works 100% with both completion methods. Well, except for the weird music that Schroeder plays, but I'm starting to think that's how it's meant to sound.

So no, it's not an emulation issue. It's a game issue and Codetapper's slave fixes those issues for the floppy version (well, one of them). No support for the CDTV release though.

Righty-o, I'll replace WHDLoad installed game with this version then.
For completionists, MFM installed version can still be found in the JST set.

In case anyone's curious, the JST version also allows you to complete the game in both ways but suffers from the graphical glitch with the parcel and invisibility of the bust when you open the parcel. It also flickers quite a bit but it doesn't get in the way of gameplay.
