BlizzPPC SCSI Emulation in UAE
I have a question that maybe Toni can shed some light on.
Specifically, when selecting hardware configurations like the BlizzPPC, is the on-board SCSI controller emulated at a hardware/register level, or does it provide some surrogate BlizzPPC.device that is just software compatible? Apologies if this sounds like a stupid question. |

All emulated boards/HD controllers/etc are hardware level emulated.
Only exception are "UAE" expansions (which don't exist in real world) which are part Amiga side, part host side implemented. |

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. How practical would you say it was to use such emulated hardware as a testing ground for driver prototyping, with the ultimate aim of producing something for real HW?
Mucking around with disposable disk images in an emulated machine seems much less risky than trying to resurrect physical hardware until a mature stage of development. |

Yes and no.
It can make development and especially debugging much faster and easier. But complex hardware (that has no documentation like BlizzardPPC) usually have unknown features or bugs that can cause all kinds of trouble that don't happen in emulation or hardware might require delays between register accesses and other timing related side-effects. These are not emulated. |

Understood. The NCR chip itself has pretty good documentation though.
