Can't boot latest versions of CWB with 8mb Ram (real A1200)

Hi!

Strange one this, with a 4mb Simm attached to my Amitek Hawk I can use Classic Workbench (full) but if I install an 8mb Simm then it wont finish booting

It works just fine and reports 8mb if I boot from a Workbench Disk.

I've tried with KS3.0 and 3.1, same issue.

No PCMCIA cards are installed in the A1200.

Just the Ram board, a 4gb CF installed with SFS and CWb Full...

Any tips?

Cheers!

Steve.

Hi mate:
You've got the same problem than me. You don't have 8mb working. Yes, if you install workbench or try with the WB floppy, it will show 8mb running. Now try the Hawk Ram Test (on the floppy, or if you don't have it, it's here)

If it tells "Ram failed at $6000000" you've got that problem.

This was my thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=64122

And please if you get it running right with any ram, please tell me what.

Thanks for your kind words, yes my little friend passed a few weeks back, was a sad day as he was with me for 4.5 years from the day he was born!

About the Hawk - it looks like there is some kind of hardware fault with these boards doesn't it

Oh well, 4mb Ram is better than none

I don't see what else we can try, your thread exhausted everything I can think of!

If it tells "Ram failed at $6000000" .....
then there might be another AutoConfig device blocking this memory area ?

Try ShowConfig or use a memory monitor like in AsmPro to find out what really occupies the memory at $6000000 and also try to find out how far this area is blocked. Maybe it's only 64 kByte or so.

And you can configure just 4 MB and try to add the memory after the blocked area with one of the AddMem instructions..

I had Amitek Hawk memory board in my A1200 and it worked with 4MB and 8MB without problems in ClassicWorkbench. Just sold it a few month ago.

Thanks for that, it's strange a few of are having problems but maybe the cards we own all have the same fault?

I didn't have a problem with any other 8mb Ram card and Classic Workbench, that's why it's a little strange!
