Which accelerator for WHDLoad?
Hi,
I would appreciate your opinion... I have one A500, very late model, 8a revision, 2.04, upgraded to 2MB chip and ECS Denise. As I have one more A500 1.3 in original setup and nice condition, I was thinking about using this first one as my everyday, upgraded machine. Also I would like to add an accelerator, so I could use WHDL. So, as I have never used WHDL, I don't know is TF534 (68030 40MHz + 4MB) good enough for it. Or, should I use my only one A600 and upgrade it with Furia EC020 (68020 33MHz + 9.5MB). What's more important in this case, CPU or RAM? Or both cards are equally good, more or less? I suppose it's not possible to use A590 with 2MB fast RAM with TF534? |

more important for WHDLoad is memory.
for the rest it is mainly comfort of use in my opinion. my ideal config: a1200+030+many fast ram!! PS/ because PRELOAD tooltype is always the better way to use WHDLoad patch Indeed OS SWAP can cause some troubles with some patches (because some DMA registers can not be readed but only written). Suppose you get best of both worlds by doing this as need a quick Workbench interface otherwise it is painfully slow! |

I still think the ACA500plus offers the best balance of features, at the expense of not fitting inside the case. The fast 68000 is plenty for almost all WHDLoad games, and while the A1200 accelerator slot on the ACA500+ is awkward, it's there if you need it. The really awesome thing about it is all the convenience features to boot and configure your system without having to futz around with a gotek, etc, built-in freezer cart support, etc.
Jens designed a great product, albeit a weird one. The A590 will work with the TF534 but the extra 2M on the A590 will be dog-slow, and you'll still have only 6M of ram to work with vs. 8+ on other expansions. |

@ trickster
nice but since I use my AUX cf card quite often to transfer stuff to my A500 that internal ACA500 would piss me off really fast eh ;-) |

That’s what the A314 is for - I can transfer files to and from the AUX cf card wirelessly using the PiDrive on the A314. So the case lid stays on but I still have access

Another vote for ACA500+. It's full of great features, such as Action Replay, and you get Kickstarts and 3.1 OS already in the flash. So it's super easy to handle for noobs like me.
It can also give you 1MB chip ram, but you need the ECS Agnus Amiga version. |

I love the ACA500+, it's so nice and offers all kinds of very useful features.
However, for WHDLoad, I still prefer a system with 32 bit chip ram (A3000/A1200/CD32/A4000). Reason being that some WDHLoad games don't run at full speed on machines without that - even if accelerators are present. I think it's due to Blitter Wait patches mostly. One example I personally remember was Alien Breed '92. Worked on my A600/030 with WHDLoad, but didn't run as smoothly as it did from floppy. On my A1200 however, it worked just fine. |

How about the new Buffee accelerator with 512MB or 1GB option? Then add a IDE HD with CF adapter? This is simple yet can max out the A500+ ECS chipset.

(I don't know if direct links are OK, so Search for "Amiga 500 expansion port extender" in eBay with shipping selected to "Ship to Germany" for example; then they show up) They don't seem that complicated so it would nice if some one with the required skills could make gerbers for them available. I can solder just fine, but have no PCB design skills (at least yet |
