force games to run in NTSC with USSload

EDIT
how to force a game to run in NTSC, on OCS hardware, using the cool Toni Wilen USSload tool

a way to reach also for non ECS users
also, when some games stuck at some point during the loading, and instead works fine in the game itself, in NTSC mode

ok, not all the games will work, but many you can make them run faster also on PAL

useful for many slow/little slow titles

test procedure :

- if the game works normally in NTSC, just make an .uss savestate with WinUAE (ofc set in NTSC) and put it in an .adf with also the USSload
then reload, and test also on PAL system

- if the game stuck during the loading (in NTSC), load it in PAL configuration and make an .uss savestate
then put both USSload and savestate in an .adf
load the .adf with a NTSC setting this time, and make a savestate again
make another .adf with savestate and USSload inside
done
note that the first savestate procedure can be made also with an Action Replay, to save at least 0.5MB, RAM talking

using whatever method, just consider that you'll need at least 0.5MB more than the original memory setting, in order to reload the state

ussload already supports PAL / NTSC command line parameters that override statefile PAL/NTSC state. ECS required.

A couple of titles that normally stuck during first loading, trying to make them run in NTSC mode, can be also 'unlocked' with USSload.
Also on ECS in this case

Gods, for example, normally it does freeze on the note screen (before the intro).
Making a savestate in the main menu, and reloading it overriding the state to NTSC, let this title to finally have a speed boost, just put it on a disk and test on real hardware

I can say, it gains a couple of points in playability

just testing another title that seems refusing to boot at 60Hz, Forgotten Worlds

playing the lovely Flashtro one disked crack here

another one that you can make it work reloading the uss savestate and force it to NTSC

its imo interesting the result, there are some slowdowns using A500+ or A600 configs, and a good running on A1200

the larger screen is surely better

im uploading the adf in the zone, if you want give a look/try or share your opinions, cause im just on emulation here

EDIT Forgotten Worlds test disk (boot):

https://eab.abime.net/zone/Forgotten...ngame_NTSC.adf

you need at least a 1MB ECS system to try it

should work on real hardware too, but need to be tested, expecially when will access to disk further on;

its a way to 'unlock' to NTSC some tough ones

min requirement 1MB total and ECS chipset (i mean to test Forgotten Worlds)

but Kid Chaos is a full screen game, you'll miss part of the screen in NTSC

do you still want to know?

ah, i see now why you asked about this;
if you start it in NTSC mode, the code will switch it back to PAL, also if reloaded in a further point (ECS reasoning)

ill try the OCS to NTSC OCS brute way

Chaos Engine AGA would be a good one to force to NTSC, since it only runs in PAL and only uses a "NTSC" screen mode size.

i think i have already tried this, and it was ok

maybe the image was vertically centered on PAL, so a bit was cutted when on NTSC

ill check it out again, thanks for the hint

Chaos Engine AGA NTSC boot disk zoned

this seems working really good, also the music
made with the original ipf set
confirmed screen a bit truncated in the lower part

boot loading pics and intro also in, this prob make a check just at boot, later seems ok at 60Hz

you can test it on a default A1200, just swap with the gamedisk1 (ipf) at the end of boot loading

UPDATED v2 :

NTSC not contempled when it was developed prolly

np
let me know it there are some other ones that worth a check

---
others unlockable
Midnight Resistance and Woody's World (ECS)

Woodys World if runned on NTSC OCS it works perfectly fine, but if pushed at 60Hz on ECS it will switch back to 50Hz in main menu
so making a state after that switch you can play it at 60Hz also on ECS and OCS Pal;
and it worths imo

---
Whizz (both OCS and AGA versions) is also unlockable;
there is a swap to 50Hz every time the game return to main menu, so this can be unlocked ingame;
the code of this game is very good imo, at 60Hz it does flies

---
Ninja Warriors, i thought this needed a check but no
the original doesnt work but the QTX crack seems working perfectly fine at 60Hz too

Tried it in WinUAE with A1200 NTSC mode and it starts to load, then hangs with disk drive making lots of sounds. Just tried on real hardware, does the same. Stuck on black screen trynig to load from disk.

thanks for the try, ill modify a bit, restoring the original disk request;
you need to insert the original disk 1 (ipf) at the end of the very short boot loading, before the screen turns black, better if on df1 in this first version
