very old titles

I just added real support for Seven Cities of Gold.

This 1985 title didn't work properly with kickstart 1.3, not even 1.2: memory list is corrupt, then after fixing it, ship is invisible, palette is wrong, ... endless bad surprises.

So now you can grab A1000 31.34 rom and softkick from that one to play the game properly

To quick cash on that new feature, I was wondering which other games suffer from issues like that or just are missing a whdload install because of that?

Monkey Business runs fine on 1.3, but badly programmed stuff like 7cofg won't.

I don't know if it's related but there is a weird bug in Borrowed Time's WHDL. To reproduce:

E, E, E, Hide behind the chair, N, lock door, U, break glass, get shard

At this point you should be able to go EAST through the window and continue the game, but if you try this the game will keep saying "you are in the attic" and a gfx glitch will appear. Then the thugs will come and kill you.

Actually, after EAST you are on the window ledge (as if you were playing non-buggy version) and can CLIMB CABLE - CUT CABLE WITH SHARD at which point the game will display the proper gfx again. But if you don't know that you can do that you'll be stuck in that attic moment getting frustrated.

I don't think that's related, it's not only a graphical bug. that's a good candidate for a whdload mantis bug report. You'd need to provide a savegame at the exact spot too. What's the date of the game?

Anyone managed to find a working 31.34 kickstart rom that works with Seven Cities of Gold NTSC? I have download 3 from 3 different places and renamed it correctly but it says invalid kickstart when I try to run the game. I have tried both the 256k versions and the 512k versions but I get the same error.

you just can't use one kickstart for another. The relocations & patches are different.

If you share your NTSC version of the game I may be able to make it run with the pal kick 31.34 rom

If you use the 32.034 PAL kickstart and name it kick31340.a1000 it reads the rom and then asks for kick31340.a1000.rtb which doesn't seem to exist anywhere.

Edit: I bothered to read the WHDLoad.de page and the rtb file is in the archive! D'Oh! All works fine if you use the PAL kickstart.

Try Rogue: the Adventure game. IIRC its title screen used to be corrupt even on KS1.2 and I do not know if Stingray's whd slave fixed that.

Ahh now it works! thanks. What threw me is that the install is NTSC and kickstart 31.34 is NTSC also. For some reason that kickstart doesnt work but a renamed PAL 32.034 kickstart does.

The RTB file is included in the slave install here

Strange as when I load the kickstart in winuae it tells me

KS ROM v1.1 (A1000)(PAL) rev 31.34 (256k)

When opened with an hex editor I can read: "exec 31.34 (23 Nov 1985)". There's also a NTSC version of the 31.34. Very similar.

Sorry if this is a mess, those old ROMs are very difficult to identify.

It appears that only this game explicitly requires this old version of the ROM to run properly. Others were properly fixed (Archon was not so easy to fix for kick 1.3) and work when fixed.

It also appears that "Borrowed Time" is a very old game. Could benefit from a rebuild with 1.1. It's Psygore's so submit a bug report. There's nothing I can do.

Yeah, it's from 1985. No worries, I just mentioned it here on the odd chance. Been meaning to file a bug report for some time now, got a few others as well. S.D.I for example, also an oldie (1987), has gfx glitching in some battle scenes.
