Slim CD drive with idefix97.....atapi device appears not to be working
I started to add the following things to my A600:
Slim CDrom drive Clockport adapter Hard drive buffered ide 1mb ram expansion I now have them all in the A600 case. I have the ide buffer configured like this: 44pin channel 1 = 2.5" 1gb Harddrive 40pin channel 2 = slimline cdrom When installing idefix and searching for cdroms it gets round to scanning the atapi.device and says an atapi device has been found but appears not to be working correctly check cables etc and master/slave settings. I have it running on a brick psu so it has enough power. I have tried different ide cables also. Any ideas. My cdrom is a teac 224e with the jae>40pin adapter. Pic of everything inside the A600 case: ![]() The clockport adapter is under the ide cable and the hard drive is under the ide buffer Last edited by Smiley; 22 July 2006 at 19:46. |

Heys Smiley,
just something obvious, depending on what JAE you have fited to your ROM drive can automaticaly place the drive in SLAVE as opposed to MASTER which i have had issues with on many CD/DVD ROMS. Some JAE adapters have a jumper (most dont) and the way I have found arround this is to set the HDD and ROM on the same channel with the HDD set to cable select (and obviously first in the chain). hope it helps. My jae adapter does not come with jumpers however there is an area where you can add jumpers yourself.
It allows for these configs, Cable Select, Hi, Lo. Are Hi/Lo the same as Master/Slave? My HardDrive has 4 extra pins for jumpers. However I cannot find the configs for these. Do all 2.5" HardDrives use the same jumper configs? I think the problem is definately a Master/Slave prob. |

Ok now i have a fresh install of WB2.1 on my A600. I am using a newer version of IDEFIX97 than before.
Now when scanning devices it find a toshiba harddrive on scsi.device and nothing on atapi.device. I have jumpers now installed on the jae>ide adapter. Ive tried a few combos but it doesnt show up at all! I dont think this is a power problem because the cdrom powers up fine and when you put a cd in it you can here it loading/spinning up fine... help? also I have tried a few different cables Last edited by Smiley; 26 July 2006 at 18:01. |

Hello Smiley
As I got a PM by you Smiley I try to explain what I did to my Slimline solution and what kind of problems I had. At first, if you have installed IDEFix and you change your IDE config you might get the problem that Idefix finds the changes done by you but it will not work ! I had that problem when I changed my (also) Teac 224 CDrom to an other Teac 224 CDrom with an other mini IDE connector. For the IDEfix (Express) I changed from Master to Slave and it did not work. I had to reinstall IDEFIX to bring my changed IDEFix Express CD-ROM solution in working order again. You should use the latest IDEFix Software, I think I got it my from the Aminet and later I got a full with a key but I´m not sure. You wrote you use WB2.1 Do you use Kick 2.0x ? I suggest to use Kick3.1. It is possible that your problems are a kickstart / WB problem. |

Thanks Hacky.
I have a legit serial key for idefix97 so I will try and get the very latest version from aminet. Im using kickstart 2.0 version 37.350 Thanks for the input, I may just be using an old version of idefix EDIT: Uninstalled idefix97 and installed ther latest version using ym serial key and same problem. Could it be because I have a 40pin ide adapter and not a 44pin adapter? Last edited by Smiley; 26 July 2006 at 22:39. |

I have the same problem with master/slave and was wondering what jae connector you have? I have one which does not allow me to do my own jumper setting, so I am kinda stuffed really!!! Where can I get one that I can a Jae connector that will allow me to do my own jumper setting ? A part number and manufacturer name would be appreciated. Cheers, dc33 |

Ive had problems with IDEfix, cured it by removeing the entries i'd placed in the startup-sequence. Works fine now.
