Zydec megaboard, gary adaptor socket.

http://www.bboah.com/index.php?actio...220&artlang=en

I have one of these boards but the raised socket on the gary adaptor is damaged and not repaired effectively as you can see in the attached pic.

Anyone know what kind of socket this raised thing is. I can't find a replacement. Best I can do so far is two of these -

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ic-soc...pters/6742536/

plus 1 or 2 ordinary DIP48 sockets. I suppose this would do it but I'm not convinved 3 or 4 socketed connections would be reliable. Would prefer to get the correct type only . . . what is it?

if it works like other boards I can imagine you only need two clips.

Some boards that monkey with gary just connect to a couple of pins right? I think this one is different, you can't see it on the photo above but in the BBOAH image you can see there is some extra logic on the adaptor board, messing with addressing somehow I suppose. I have to repair this whole connection to make it work I think.

One of the most unfortunately named companies, to English ears anyway, has the correct pins you want. Download the PDF and match them.

http://documents.rs-components.com/t...tockno=6741530

That's the link to the catalog, same type of pins used in the A1000 Spirit boards.

(Assmann? Whats so unfortunate about that? (snigger))

Thanks Loedown but I can't see the right thing in that catalogue. It needs to be male-male DIP. It has what looks like the same extended pins but male-female only.

The male to male ones are the same as what I linked to earlier, not extended. Range only goes up to 40 pin so I think I'll just have to go with 2x24 of those and stack another socket.

From the BBOAH pics of the Spirit it does look to be the same pins as this Zydec but that would be the massive 68k DIP package, have you ever had to buy pins/sockets like this, if so, where did you get them?

EDIT: after a second look the Spirit uses SIP extenders, that would do nicely but I can't find those either.

In that catalog

AW12624/Z-T SIP extended machined pins
AW12224/T Male to male machined pins

You can't use wire wrap style pins because they're square, same with IDC header pins.

You're not going to find much else methinks.

Those would work but the extended ones are the wrong gender. I went with the DIP24 instead of SIP though and . . . success. Board works great now. Hope I don't break it again when I pull it out of my A500, it's in there real good.

Two ordinary DIP48 sockets and two of these -

ar24-st/t

Bit of a tricky desoldering job because those giant pins are pretty good heatsinks. Needed hot air to assist the vacuum desoldering gun. If you had to do this with just an iron I would recommend cutting up the socket and extracting the pins one by one.

Hmm, I might have spoken too soon. The card works perfectly but only if the 512k "daughter" card is attached. This is a plain old 512k trapdoor card that also works stand alone. The megaboard has a through connector for it but the additional 1MB on the mega board does not work unless the 512k board is added.

I don't see any jumpers or anything, anyone got one of these and know what's up?

I think Rat Shit Components is ideal, certainly for their prices.
