Yup, was called Gameswipe - with the formula being based off his Screenwipe series at the time.

Really enjoyed it - a little sad it was basically a one-off though. Hopefully this new program is as enjoyable

Ah yes Gameswipe! Good show, the kind of show I wanted all those years ago during the Amiga's glory days. Not those embarrassing cringe worthy shows, featuring hosts that felt as if they needed to talk very quickly with dramatic hand gestures spouting technobabble in order to appeal to their target audience. Well maybe they weren't all that bad but the scars remain. Thank goodness for Brooker!

If someone could capture (possibly HD!) and upload "How Videogames Changed the World"... it'd be great.

This may get folks in the mood for the upcoming show :-) Brooker explains how modern video games work to a Channel 4 news presenter.

Yeah sky+ at the ready I do like Charlie's dead pan humor.

Games wipe was good but too short.

I've set it to tape (sd only on my equipment) but the file will be quite large at 2 hours. Where would I upload it to?

Bugger that didn't work
For that to work you need to use a fixed width font and for it to register multiple spaces as multiple spaces (as opposed to 1). In most forums (or atleast the ones I frequent) you would quote it as code:

Code:
          _
          \`\
          |= |
         /- ;.---.
   _ __.' (____)
    ` (_____)
   _' ._ .' (____)
   ` (___)
   --`'------'`
Gotta love ASCII art

In addition to that, I have finally remembered the title to the Tetris documentary I mentioned earlier in the thread. It is called "Tetris: With Love From Russia" and can be watched online from various websites, including YouTube.

Well, I saw it (and the movie/documentary that followed - about the making of Super Meat Boy and the 2 other games which I forget the titles of). I thought it was quite good - I never knew there was a Pac-Man cartoon and I haven't played Mortal Kombat since the 90's so that "finish-her" move they showed from Mortal Kombat 9 was rather shocking (mainly as characters look much more realistic these days).

It started off well but then missed out several key gaming moments such as Sim City, Dungeon Master, Outrun, Lemmings, Speedball, SWOS and Myst. Not even the Sonic series were given air time.

Commodore 64 had a mention but no mention of the Amiga.

Good Ocean c64 SID tune for title music

Nice to see Peter Molyneux interviewed but they did not cover his games: Theme Park, Syndicate and Magic Carpet.

As this thread mentions a few related programmes, I would recommend this series (on YouTube):

I never realised the controversy Mortal Kombat had caused (given that I didn't play fighting games except Tekken and Soul Blade). When they showed the bit where the woman gets sliced in half and gets picked up, I actually felt quite sick! Yet, considering I've played many other "violent" games like GTA series, Resident Evil and so on, I never batted an eyelid!

Not a bad documentary by any means but yes, I agree with you guys that many key games were overlooked but then I think air-time for this programme would had needed several hours+ to cover them all. Maybe a series would had been better...

.... and social networking sites are perceived as games? Never looked at it from that angle. However, there's no High Score tables, game controls are so simple even a toddler could play it, SFX are truly ZX81 (none) and the graphics are shite!

I enjoyed the show for the most part, was happy to see Elite mentioned but thought it would have been given more air time considering the epic achievement it was, Amiga was a no show but I had a feeling that might have been the case...Would Loved to have Worms mentioned in relation to Angry Birds but oh well. Overall informative and well made with some decent gags. More please.

With you on the social network angle quahappy, maybe that's Brooker being more satirical than anything else?

I'm uploading it to youtube for anyone that didn't get to see or couldn't connect to 40d for however long it stays up for.

It was interesting to watch, but nothing we didn't already know, but sort of sums out how the medium is seen today by society as a whole and not just the gamers or old guys guys that have seen all this as it happened.
