aminet.net - how to add screenshots to readme files
For a long time now there is a screenshot function in the readme view on aminet.net, but for some reason there is no detailed instructions on how to make it work or how to upload a screenshot to your archive.
Maybe it's simple like a readme ? filename.??? Anyone any ideas? |

It's not implemented yet. It sort of works (in a very crude way) for pictures that have been uploaded, for there's no way to provide a screenshot for an archive yet.
Aminet activity took a nosedive years ago, when all the NG variants decided to establish their own repositories - there's not much activity left in the m68k-amigaos area. That sort of dampened the motivation of our PHP coders, so we're mostly fixing bugs these days. |

That's a shame, really. Aminet was so great once and should still be. It's much worse situation when you have to hunt programs all over the net to find them be removed.
I'd still want to see Aminet progressing and getting some new features though, and will support it even if uploading elsewhere too. There are always general files for all camps too, which get harder to find when spreaded on several places. And I'd like to see what new files come to platforms I don't use and follow that closely. ATM I don't have any idea what comes for OS4 and AROS for example (or does AROS even have its own repository?), if they aren't uploaded to Aminet. It's a shame.. I'd like to keep myself on the map more. |

AmiNet is also nice since it was centralized, and if you needed something for several OS's you could/can just download the respective archives and keep an eye what got updated where. Even with the independent depos that are good it would have been nice to see mirrored uploads to aminet, sadly they don't happen. Or maybe you can find an automatic mirroring solution from OS4 and MOS ones? Or the 'WAR' thing has become 'COLD WAR' and everybody is happy in their own corner ?

But OS4depot, AROS, ... don`t have 68k software, right?
I`m interested in 68k and gerneric, so I only use Aminet. However, if you publish anykind of software it would be stupid to don`t upload to Aminet. That is the place people know and serach. It is still the number one IMHO. I`ve never seen someone links to OS4depot or the others, only to Aminet. |

You guys don't have to convince me, I'm all for Aminet becoming the next big thing again
It's not just about people not supporting Aminet anymore - there's simply not much activity in general. It's not like dozens of m68k programs or updates get released every month that don't end up on Aminet... Quote:
Nobody's really interested in automated mirroring, they probably fear their own archives wouldn't get much attention in that case. Quote:
