Experimental thing - Gloom Deluxe + CD Music

Posted a stupid experimental thing to the zone, CD music for Gloom Deluxe.

It's configured with the Akiko C2P routine and a single song ("Rip and Tear" from Doom 2016). Since it uses a background utility, the game is running in Multitasking mode (which is likely slowing it down further than it would otherwise run at). Tested on a real console.

Turn on and off CD music by pressing "GREEN". Make sure music is off when the game is loading, else it'll stall (I haven't seen it crash though, when I've had the music running during when it'd normally be loading, the game simply pauses until the music is stopped).

Part of a larger overall mini-experiment to look at adding CD music to games that didn't have it previously. Such an approach should be broadly compatible with AMOS/Backbone titles and other games that support multitasking (Meynaf's Atari ST efforts, Dune 2, 4D Sports Driving, LucasArts games, Flight of the Amazon Queen etc).

Good work Earok!

Would be dodgy if the game crashed when loading and the CD music was playing, but if as you say it pauses until music stopped, should alert the player to stop the music until game loaded then resume playing!

I uploaded Tiny Troops. It acts same as Gloom.

Gave it a real quick try - surprised that it works! I didn't think it was a fully multitasking game due to the problems we had using fakemouse etc.

I wonder if Lemmings 3 would be compatible with that approach. We could pull the CD music from the PC port, convert the intro to CDXL, combine it with the existing approach I've already implemented for saving to NVRAM, then we'd have a mostly perfect port

I think each of the three Tribes has their own playlist of a few songs, so we could dedicate a button to each plus a button for stop when the game needs to load..

Attention!

I burned Tiny Troops and at some point I got horrible grinding/vibrating sound coming from CD.

If anyone was thinking to burn cd, better not or think twice before and test it at your own risk.
