Anthony Hoffman re-balled the 060 chip on my CyberStormPPC card waaaaaaaay back around 2003. It had 'died' a few months after buying it - altho' it was second-hand. Black screen. Was living in same city at the time, so it was easy to send him the card. It came back with the same chip, but performing like a new one - and it's STILL cruising along fine in 2020! Re-balling BGAs correctly is no mean feat. It's where electrical science meets art. Anthony Hoffman has those skill sets.

He's also done three 'tours of duty' way down in Antarctica, helping maintain the vital communications technology that makes surviving in such extremes possible. If he can do that, imagine what he can do for our miggys!

The 060 chip isn't a BGA but has a very nasty surface mount socket. The PPC is a BGA. Whichever fix you had done kudos as both are very tricky replairs.

Ach, yes - you're right. Wasn't thinking. Sorry. The plastic mount had warped, possibly causing or contributing to the problem. Anthony removed it entirely and hand soldered the pin sockets in place. He has detailed pics of this process on his site, altho' they are of another client's card.

As said, that was SEVENTEEN years ago. Now, in 2020, the 'O60 STILL clips along in the A3000 like a new one. Never had a problem with it since.

Ironically, the PPC chip has a fault now. It goes for a while from a cold boot, but soon stops working. Seems like a solder connection has come adrift. Will have to have the PPC chip reflowed - or maybe even upgraded if possible.

Cheers.

With that said, if anyone wants to update or add repair people to the list, post here.
For example, anyone in Argentina up for it? I don't think electroeject is active anymore, but the forum I linked to is behind a registration wall now.

Incredible resource, thanks! Is @rcvtech still doing recaps in Australia? Might have a 1200 to send to him soon.
