A500 not showing colour

My A500 only shows monochrome picture on my tv. I am using the A520 plugged into the RGB port, and an RF cablefrom the A520 to TV.

Any idea what could be wrong, and how to fix it to get a colour picture on the TV?

The A520 can be broken or the TV is not tuned correctly.

Check the pins in the socket for TV/Monitor on the back of the Amiga. Sometimes one of the pins gets pushed in through lots of use.

Yep, I'd wager is the connector or just the cable that's broken.
Mine is unstable too; you can choose between greenish-purple, dark-yellow and whatnot ...
After various angles tried, you sometimes are the winner, having standard white on blue (wow )

As far as I can tell the pins are fine, and wiggling, jiggling and wobbling the connections don't make a difference.
At one point I did see a flash of blue, or that could have been my eyes going funny from being too close to the TV

Any more ideas?

Also try connecting the composite connector on the A520 to the av in of your TV, if that doesn't show colour either, you'll probably have to get a new modulator.

The A-520 needs 5V, 12V and I think -12V, too. Don't have schematics right here, but I know if the 12V or -12V are missing you don't get any colour.
I have had this happen several times, and in most cases it was just a broken solder joint on the connector of the A-520's pcb.
If you move the A-520 up and done a little bit while the Amiga is running, does it show colour, then ?
You can just open the A-520 by pulling off the upper case (there are no screws), then remove 2 screws on the pcb, turn it upside down and resolder all solder joint on the connector.

Hope that helps

Be careful when opening the A520, it's very easy to break the fastening rods that connect the top and bottom halves together. The rods of the bottom half go into holes in the top case and friction holds the whole thing together.

Prise it open from all edges evenly.. It's very stiff at first, so you need to use some force but if you overdo it, you'll end up opening one side too far and you will snap the rods.

I hope you did't get that modulator from the US. It may be an NTSC modulator, which will give you a BW screen on a PAL tv (I'm a PAL guy living in an NTSC country so the first thing that came to my mind was this.)

You not got a SCART socket on your TV? Get a SCART cable... it will give you a much better picture.
