Hi guys .. thanks for all the help so far !

Right a few questions

1. Is it ok to install wb 3.1 on my amiga 1200 with ks 3.0 ?

2. Why is my amigas fdd always looking for a disk .. after a while it becomes a very irritating noise.

3.what utils are a real must for my a1200 hd install

1. WB3.1 wont run on a KS3.0 Amiga. You will have to change the roms or (gasp!) softkick a new kickstart in there (this will require more RAM than stock config)

2. All Amiga drives "click", there are patches to reduce the clicking to barely unhearable levels. Search aminet for "no click" or similar

3. A directory manager like Directory Opus 4 or Dir Work 2, all your extracting commands like lha, lzx, zip, rar, etc..., WHDLoad, a good patch like MultiCX, NewIcons, MagicMenu and I can't think of anything else for now.

I would softkick. Depends.
If you want a definitive solution and having in mind you live in the UK, where these things are more widely and easily available than over here, I would buy it.

Well you can buy KS3.1 ROMS from Amiga Deals and installing them is easy, just replace the 3.0 chips already installed.

But is it really worth the hassle .. are there any advantages of having wb 3.1 over 3.0? .. im having problems already running games .. nothing that wasnt written for the 1200 really wants to work 100 %

Well yeah there were a lot of bugs fixed in 3.1.

WHDLoad can solve troublesome game problems.

yeah iv been using whdload but things like pinball fantasys and shadow of the beast 3 dont want to work .. of if they do .. i get weird graphics or system crashs... or messages saying not enough store .. i assume that means ram . but i have an 8mb ram/fpu/rtc card

WB3.1 will run on a KS3.0 amiga. I ran it on my a1200 for a LONG time.

Indeed - the "3.1" in the WB doesn't have anything to do with the numbering of the Kickstart ROM.

yeah i installed it last night .... the only problem im having is certain "output" windows refuse to close ... any ideas?

Just a few bugfixes I think, like with HDs, but not much, it won't improve your games.

Your WHDLoad games don't run because you probably don't have enough memory to preload them fully into memory. Disable the PRELOAD option and try again.

Last I checked WB3.1 asked me for a 3.1 rom, but I could be well wrong.

do the nescesarry upgrades (KS3.1 , 030+MMU + FastRam, HD/CDROM, OS3,9) and enjoy the glory of the wonder called WHDLOAD

I don't have KS3.1 nor OS 3.9 and nevertheless enjoy WHDLoad.
Actually, for WHDLoad, I wouldn't recommend 3.9, I think it has loads of unnecessary bloat, but that's just me.

I use WB3.1 on my KS3.0 Amiga too. I've never been asked to install a different ROM, and it works just fine!

I've never even seen OS 3.1+ and like Akira, I'm more than happy with what I have
