Kickstart Revisions

Hi,

This is not a "problem", but I didn't know where else to post

I was wondering if anyone had details of the changes made between different kickstart revisions, specifically between 37.300 & 37.350 as used on the Amiga 600s.

The changes must be documented somewhere, but I can't seem to find them!

Well, here's a site that details changes between different Workbench versions and talks about the various kickstart revisions in the process:

http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/index.html

Hope that site helps.

Thank you for that I have seen that before and it is a very comprehensive site for Workbench.

I was just curious about the exact fixes between 37.300 and 37.350. Maybe there are some Commodore documents somewhere?

I think some of the Kickstarts in the early A600s had minor problems with the IDE and/or PCMCIA interfaces. I don't know any specifics though.

Do you mean for versions in between like, for example, v37.32?

If not, and you just want to know about the exact fixes between v37.300 and v37.350 per se, then Greg Donner's site does provide a few details:

Well I was just curious about what fixes were done to the ROM chips really, rather than the different Workbench revisions.

I know that 37.299 didn't have support for PCMCIA or IDE, which was fixed on 37.300. There is some speculation that 37.350 had support for bigger drives than 37.300, but other than that I don't know.

Actually it was only from reading Greg Donner's site that I knew that there were 3 ROM variants! Hehe I guess what I really want to know is am I missing out on anything with my 37.300 ROMs? I have a 340MB HD in it that seems to be working fine.

Thanks to everyone that has replied so far

Officially the 37.300 Kick won´t support bigger drives than 40MB but as you said, I also have a 1Gig HD working with no problems on my A600 with Kick 37.300 here

This may be an issue with Kick 37.300 and specific Mainboard Revisions maybe .... but if it works .... who cares

v37.32 is not between v37.300 and v37.350, it's even older than v37.299. For kickstart revisions .32 isn't the same as .320.

Now let me try to answer this:

v37.299 -> Used in the first A600's (not A600HD). This revision is very interesting because it's almost identical to v37.300. Only the string "scsi.device" is crippled, seems like Commodore wanted to make sure that you have to buy a new kickstart if you want to add a hard drive...

v37.300 -> Used in the first A600HD's. Officially supports hard drives up to 40 MB. Larger drives may work, but there's no warranty for that.

v37.350 -> Supports hard drives larger than 40 MB. Could be bought as an update.

Yep, but sometimes the typing fingers can't keep up with the mind
