Switched to 4 Meg --- it made over 102 passes
Before failing Loosened the screws holding the 608 and it fell off = Bad Connection |

Do not despair. Leave it alone for now.
Has anything changed before all of this started? Like, any new hardware or cable. Also, since it's an A600, basic debugging involves removing clip-on-cpu expansions; but testing that doesn't need to happen today. |

It's back...
Nope, just stated (last month) re-setting, prob would not have know only there was a floppy in the drive to show something happened. Striped to basic (bar 604n ?)--- Fan does cool the chips But it still crashes |

It's an A600. If it hasn't been recapped, maybe it is time.
The other common problem is reliability of clip-on-cpu expansion contacts. |

Re-Capped 16/09/2015 with Tantalums.
The only none original thing on board now is the 3.1 ROM So it must be either a fault on the board or PSU. Going to swap the PSU --- report back tomorrow. |

Well, it was not the PSU ---
It was the ROM ?!?! Changed it back to the old one (2.05 - 37.350) Solid as a Rock ! |

Surreal. Now, I would leave the rom installed for a week or two, to confirm.
Also, how long had the newer rom been installed for? If there was an issue with it, I'm surprised it wouldn't manifest until much later. Also, keep an eye for those burning hot chips. Maybe they're cold now? |

They are cooler ---
Had the ROM before the Recap I too was surprised a (relatively) modern chip would fail |

Is it a 27c400 EPROM, or else? What's the vendor? Was EPROM window properly covered?

So you paid for it? Only adds insult to injury.
I suggest getting a TL866 clone off aliexpress, and a 27c400/800/etc adapter for it from ebay. This plus some eproms should cost about as much or at least not much more than buying some official pre-burnt rom. Note you'll have to use the open source burning software (minipro in github/etc), as the official software bricks clones (and is otherwise inferior in every way, as you'd expect). One of the best purchases I have ever made. Last edited by admiral; 25 May 2021 at 22:39. Reason: ever |
