F/A 18 Interceptor Pre-Release Demo

It was a demonstration of flight, similar to the the ingame demonstration.
Does anybody have this in a working condition? ADF will be fine.

Thanks, but this does not work in WinUAE. All I get is a black screen.
I tried out several configurations, Kickstart 1.2 and 1.3 and various RAM sizes.

It seems there is a sound file missing on disk if you run it with 1 MB RAM

Try to run this game from WorkBench.

It won't run from Workbench, it's CLI-only. When booting the disk, the startup-sequence does indeed start the app, which starts to run and prints some diagnostic information to the console, but then black-screen-and-done. I only tried under Kickstart 1.3 thus far.

EDIT: Ditto Kickstart 1.2, 2.0, A500 quickstart, NTSC or PAL, cycle-exact, etc., etc. Haven't found a working config yet, but something seems up with the disk, because it fails to load one of the sound effects (it's entirely possible this was an issue on the original master, but seems a bit unlikely given how obvious it is).

If you configure 512K RAM only with 2 disk drives (DF0 and DF1), there is no sound and no error message. But again a black screen only.

I saw the pre-release demo running in a computer store. Even emulating an A1000 does not help, neither Kickstarts 1.1, 1.2 (newer ones were not available at that time).

I want to see this demo working (it had little different graphics compared to the ingame demonstration flight), anyone out there for help?

I currently can't test this. But I remember exactly the same behaviour (black screen) on a real machine using a different public domain diskette... I thought it was a compatibility problem with KS 1.3, but now I doubt this...

Black screen occurs on my real A500 with 1mb. I guess the disk must have errors somewhere.



I do notice on the bootscreen there is an error message visible so all is not well with the disk it seems.

I guess you've tried it already, but:

1. Don't modify an existing config. Use Quickstart > select A500, untick drive df1, Start.
2. F12, Chipset > tick Cycle-Exact, RAM > drag Slowmem slider to 0.
3. Reset, Boot game.

The disk should be tested on real Amiga before suspecting WinUAE ofc

It was tested on real Amiga, look two posts up The EAB thread I linked to shows the files between the non-working (disk in this thread) and working disk to be identical, with root cause never being determined.

The first one does not work. The second one has the error message concerning sfx but runs fine. Thanks for the link.

As the files are identical, there are only a few possibilities for the failure... Volume Name, preferences file or a simple copy protection.

These search hits came from my search engine and the massive amount of files I have downloaded since 2009 from various places on the net.

As I couldn't find a fully working version, I finally decided to make one out of the original files from various disk images.

Modifications:
- Removed DF0: limitation (patched hardcoded filepaths in executable)
- Fixed engine startup sample (texttof)

Differences to the final game:
- Sound fx
- Cockpit graphics & HUD
- Ad banners

Zoned the ADF for anyone interested.
