Poorly Star LC-10 printer
Hi everyone,
I have a Star LC-10 printer I'd like to use with my A500. It was a workhorse printer for me back in the day. This particular unit I haven't powered on before. When I do apply power, the print head moves a few inches to the right and returns and then the printer makes a loud beep. The power light flashes rapidly orange. If I switch the printer off and advance the head all the way to the right, it will return to the start position when powered on but the fault repeats. I doubt it's been used in a while but I did fit a new ribbon. any help would be appreciated! |

I would suggest trying to find an online manual, as it sounds like a normal printer start-up check. I.e. you have to hold down some button, for 10 seconds, or something.

Sounds more like a sticking micro switch used for the carriage stop function, or a slipping belt used for the same. Check the belts and gears and observe if they're moving as they should or if they're jammed.
How free does the carriage move when you push it? If it's tight use some (preferably) silicone grease on the runners and gears, if you have no silicone grease use (sparingly) some vegetable oil or even butter or spread. |

Hi everyone,
just for reference the tech manual for the LC 10 is here. http://www.shema.ru/cd/print/5/data/17.pdf The fault was, ahem, I hadn't loaded any paper. RTFM! thanks for all the comments though. |
