RAD disk content disappear after reset with Blizzard 1240
Dear all!
I have an Amiga 1200 + Blizzard 1240 and I can't manage to get a RAD disk to "stick" in memory. I have tried to use the RAD DOS driver "out of the box" but after each reset, the content of the RAD disk called RAM_0 (!) disappear... so much for the "recoverable" part... I think that I am missing something there... Even though the RAD disk is created in CHIP memory, could the Blizzard impact it? I am using BlizKick v1.24 with the following modules (in that order): - PrepareEmul - FixMath404 - ColdResetCard - DosResetCard - LocalFast The parameters of BlizKick are EXTRESBUF=4096 and SPEEDROM. Could somebody help me? Yann PS. My RAD DOS driver is: /* $VER: RAD 40.1 (31.8.93) * * Recoverable RAM disk mount entry * * You can create different simultaneous recoverable RAM disks by creating * versions of this file with different Unit values. * * The size of a recoverable RAM disk is controlled by the value of the * HighCyl line. Increasing this value by 1 consumes an additional 11K of * RAM. So the default value of 79 consumes around 880K of memory. */ Device = ramdrive.device Unit = 0 Flags = 0 Surfaces = 2 SectorsPerTrack = 11 SectorSize = 512 Reserved = 2 Interleave = 0 Buffers = 5 BufMemType = 1 /* The LowCyl and HighCyl fields are controlled by tooltypes in the RAD icon. * * LowCyl = 0 * HighCyl = 79 */ |

Might be a good idea to read the blizkick docs regarding prepareemul and localfast.. Perhaps one of them kills your rad.

Hi Jope!
Thanks for your suggestion, I actually had read BlizKick Guide but nothing stands out... I will try without BlizKick at all and see, adding modules one by one too... I'll keep you posted! Take care! Yann |

I take it the documentation didn't mention anything? I was almost certain that I remember reading about RAD in there somewhere. :-)

It must be LocalFast that kills RAD on reset.

Dear all!
Thanks for your replies, after having commented out all the patches and enabled them one-by-one with two resets in-between (yes! More than 20 resets in one afternoon ), I found out that MCP was causing my problem, actually its "Processor" option, as confirmed elsewhere: after turning off this feature of MCP, my RAD disk survived the reset Thanks again! Which MCP version you are using????
IIRC the four last ones cured this issue long time ago (I used to be a beta tester before Dieter's A1 died horribly). |

Dear Rkauer!
Indeed, I was using version 1.21 and I just noticed that 1.46 exists I am going to install it right away... Thanks! Yann |

Have a look (read mcp.guide) at "Processor" function (SSP to FastRAM must be disabled for recoverable RAD). Maybe you don`t need it more (at least MapROM and FastROM because of blizkick). I`ve disabled it on my 1240 + RemAPollo.
If you update to a newer verson of MCP you should take care because functions/patches/mcp.config has changed a lot (~14 years). Make a backup of mcp.config file somewhere just to be sure because you need to save a new mcp.config with mcpprefs. |

Thanks Daxb! I actually updated MCP and it worked fine right away... And then my Amiga broke
Cheers! Yann |
