uaeparallel.library?

Guys I have this little problem, its in regards to windows printing and older printers. You see windows was never that spectacular when it came to squeezing the most out of old printers, but turboprint on the amiga did some amazing things when it came to even the most basic of dot matrix printers.

Now the problem is, I can't find any direct way to access a printer connected to the pc. Sure there are some round about ways. But is it possible to get winuae to directly access the parallel port on the host machine? Then have the same idea as the uaeserial.device I.e. uaeparallel.device?

WinUAE supports paraport.dll (http://www.paraport.net/) direct parallel port access. Install the driver and new options appear under parallel port select box.

I see, But heres the thing, paraport is installed, the drivers on the system and there is nothing in the parallel / printer section thats new and has anything to do with paraport. So if there something missing? Let me know.

Still this is a dirty way of doing it, couldn't winuae have a non 3rd party system to give parallel port access?

Check winuaebootlog.txt, there should be something about paraport initialization (or failure)

No. Without extra driver it is not possible to control parallel port pins directly.

How compatible is a parallel port running thanks to that driver to a real one. I mean will things like PARNet work?

It won't be compatible. PC parallel port isn't as flexible, non-data status pins (paper out etc..) are not birectional and data pins are either all output or all input.

Bugger. Almost got my solder iron out to make a PARNet cable Would I risk damaging anything having a go with it anyway?

Well, I gave paraport a go. Got it running after some messing about, good installer. doesn't install the driver only the prefs program... lol.

Anyway winuae shows it in the printer/parallel section so it was selected. Booted a clean workbench and installed turboprint, went to test the parallel printing and it crashed. Nice.
